Sonic games work just as well as I remember
I bought this pretty much just to be able to play the old Sonic games. They all work exactly as I remember and graphics are the same as they were as well (which is of course not great). Honestly, this console works just as well if not better than my Genesis did many decades ago, so I'm very happy with the purchase. The startup screen has terrible graphics so that may be why some people are giving bad reviews. But once you get in to the actual games the graphics are what they should be. They included a LOT of weird obscure games that I never would have bought and you should just ignore those. Of the 81 games on the console, only the Sonic games and Mortal Kombat are worth playing. Yes it does have a very old analog way of hooking up to the TV. Couldn't use it on my upstairs TV, had to take it to the older downstairs TV. Which is fine, because that TV is smaller which is better for the old graphics. ;)

Almost Perfect, But Sadly, Not Quite
I was really excited to receive this as a Christmas gift. If you're into late 80s games, this is a really nice thing to have. PROS- (1) The price is right. (2) The system is small and compact. Thus you can easily find a place for it. (3) It includes TWO 6 button controllers that seem to work well. (4) The connections are external. So unlike the Atari Flashback, it is very easy to just switch the game system in and out with your DVD player. (5) You get a great amount of games, and some really good ones too! 'Golden Axe,' 'Golden Axe 2,' 'Golde Axe 3,' 'Altered Beast,' 'Columns,' 'Sonic Hedgehog,' etc. (6) There is a cartridge port. So if you have Genesis cartridges leftover from the late 80s, you can play them again. CONS (1) I was looking forward to visiting the 3 'Mortal Kombat' games again. And while they are here, they are not so playable. By that I mean, on the SUPERN NES, 'easy' meant beginner friendly, and 'difficult' meant a good challenge for a longtime expert. Sadly, that's not the case here. 'Easy' means difficult, and 'Difficult' means absurdly and ridiculously difficult. At first I thought this was a problem with my system. But then I looked online and noticed other people were having the same problem, (2) It claims to have 80 games. But only 1/2 are SEGA GENESIS games. The other 40 are these random crap ware games. Most, though not quite all are absurd and unplayable. 'Break the Fire Line' is like 'Space Invaders.' I'll allow it. 'Bubble Master' is ok. 'Chess' is ok. 'Spider' is halfway decent. But the others are complete garbage. FINAL ANALYSIS: The 3 'Mortal Kombat' games aren't really so playable. But even if you subtract these three games, you are still left with a generous number of great classic games. Yea. Some people complained that the graphics are not the exact same, and some of the music isn't the same. While I do I understand, I also feel that you have to be a little forgiving when you're getting this number of games for such a low price. Yea. Some people complained that some of their favorites weren't there. But again, you're getting so much for so little. While I would have liked to have played the Mortal Kombat' games again, I am still happy with this gift. And I can highly recommend it for late 80s nostalgia. UPDATE: I still prefer this over the NEW SEGA MINI. (A) This has two 6 button controllers, whereas the SEGA only gives you 3 button controllers. To put "Street Fighter' II and "Eternal Champions" in the new SEGA MINI, but only give you 3 button controllers was either absurd or just greedy. And be it absurd or greedy, neither is good. You don't include games that will require you to eventually buy another two controllers. That's just wrong. (B) This version will play most SEGA GENESIS cartridges whereas the SEGA one will not.

Brace yourself for a NOSTALGIA TSUNAMI.
Grew up with the original Genesis. This thing is a blast from the past in the best way possible. Easy to install, easy to use, authentic feel with the controllers. Gameplay on the games is legit and hearkens back to the original system. I'm 36 and have loved playing these to remember how things used to be, but my kids (11, 8, and 3) have also fallen in love with some of the classic titles and have had a wonderful time with the system. Price is great. Buy one.

Horrible experience from day one.
I've had few products in my life that actually made my jaw drop due to the obscene lack of quality control. Having had purchased a SNES months ago that has ran flawlessly and already provided countless hours of entertainment for my family, I really had no concerns about ordering another new classic game console so we went with the Sega. Day one, the console arrives and my two older sons decide to give it a go. Right from the start the 1st player controller is unable to establish connection to the device despite being plugged in carefully. Console is turned on, troubleshooting for about 30 minutes before the controller randomly begins to work. Now that this issue is seemingly behind us we proceed to the game selection, wow a great variety of games, sadly half of them DO NOT WORK. Apologies for the caps, but seriously, nearly half the games would not load, or when they loaded the picture quality was beyond recognizable, I'm not talking pixels and poor picture, I'm talking a blob of distorted mess on your tv screen. From there it goes down hill, each day the 1st player controller continued to be faulty & several games would randomly not work, then work, and so on. We finally sent it back for a full refund due to no viable solution being found or offered. Hopefully this is not the norm, but for my family this was a waste of time & money.

Needs HDMI in 2017
I have still have a Sega Genesis. What it lacks is an HDMI output because they didn’t exist 25 years ago. While the description for this is clear that it comes with AV cables, I simply assumed that a console made in 2017 would have an HDMI output so it could be hooked up to modern TVs (like the Nintendo Classic Edition). My TV doesn’t have AV inputs. A little more research on my part would have kept me from purchasing this, but I didn’t do that and wound up making a bad assumption. My fault. I will say that I don’t think AV cables qualify and “Plug & Play” capable in 2017. Does the unit work and work well? I don’t know. I don’t have any way to hook it up. So I’m giving it 3 Stars because it may be perfectly fine for many people. But without HDMI out,I think this is a very incomplete product in 2017. You could probably buy a real, working Genesis for less that would be just as easy to hook up to a modern TV.

Good product. Worked well. Cords on controllers are a little short so we had to move some furniture closer to play, but it was fun. Graphics are exactly the same quality as the original, so it looks really bad on a large tv. It’s heavily pixelated but still good for a laugh. Worth the price.

Love the system. It was shipped and received quickly. Some great games on there; some of Sega's best. Love that it brings me back to my childhood! All the old "cheat codes" even work for the games. Looks like they tried to get the game count up by loading some really crappy games on there as well. I think they could have eliminated them (probably around 30-40) and the system would still be awesome/great value.

I got a Sega genesis when I was about 6 years old and I remember that day like it was yesterday, I was so happy to find it sitting on my moms bed waiting for me. So when I seen this, I thought my children might be just as happy as I was to receive this, they currently have a nintendo switch and now this game console. They're 6 years old and I got it for them for their 6th birthday, they play this game console way more than their nintendo switch. It has so many games that I grew up playing so I showed them some of which were moms favorites and now those are they're favorites too. There are lots of games on here I don't recognize but that's ok, I defintely love checking them out and feeling all the nostalgia. It was a great buy for my boys but also me to watch my boys enjoy something as much as I did when I was a kid.
