Grills like a charcoal or wood grill
WOW. Very impressed. This grill box exceeded my expectations. It is sturdy and very well designed. If you like smokey grilled food like you'd get from a charcoal or wood burning grill, this grill box is for you. The design of the inner workings is fantastic as it distributes the heat evenly. Wonderful grilling experience.

A great option, since almost no parts are replaceable
I had a grill box from the purchase of my Camp Chef Woodwind 36, 3 years ago, and I'm glad to say that I wore this out by use. If I'd have cleaned it more often, I'd still be using it. I rusted through the heat diffuser plate, which is not replaceable. As this is a frequently used part of my smoker, I found this replacement was a good price, and a good option. I wish more parts were replaceable on it, but that's a Camp Chef design issue, and it's ok. I'm happy with the replacement and saved the cooking grates so I can switch those out as needed. A must for any Camp Chef Sidekick (side burner) owner.

It functions well.
It's not as heavy duty as some other products, but that allows it to be of reasonable weight. See my long review for the Camp Chef Explorer EX-60LW camp stove. Update: While another reviewer said it was good for cooking for one or two people, I used this in a perhaps unusual way when entertaining about 40 people. This worked well for me: I bought a bunch of hamburger which we rolled into 90 large meatball size portions and flattened them to make small "slider" burgers. We bought large bags of fresh dinner rolls that we sliced which were the right size and fresher than normal buns. About twenty minutes before people were to arrive I started cooking the small burgers a dozen at a time on my griddle on one burner on my stove. While those were starting, I lit the second burner on low and placed the oven there with the temp rising to about 150 degrees. By the time people arrived I had a dozen burgers ready in the warming oven and another dozen making nice grilling sounds as people came to get one. This allowed me to be ready for surges in the demand for the popular small burgers. It worked really well! Two people said the burgers were perfectly cooked medium well (not overcooked by remaining on the griddle)... I confess I claimed chef credit rather than giving credit to the equipment. Have a roll of paper towels handy to wipe up spatters or extra grease and if using the griddle set the stove at a slight angle so grease runs into the small catch area of the griddle. A couple reviewers said there is a modest center hot spot problem with the oven when used for grilling. I use a diffuser plate under it and have not noticed any problem when using it to grill kabobs on skewers. It seemed to work really well for that application. One other review mentioned that the oven works with the windscreen, but that's not totally correct. In my mini burger example I was frequently opening and closing the oven which the wind screen, if used, would have prevented (the back of the lid would hit the windscreen). The wind screen could be used while baking etc., but would have to be lifted off when opening the oven.

Decent quality grill
I bought this one to replace the previous one that made it around eight years. The bottom deflector finally rusted out although I could have been better with cleaning that area which I learned later. Don’t just burn everything out, it needs brushed. Salts and acids can build up down there depending on how you cook. Other than that it was a shame throwing the old one out because the rest was fine. My only complaint is that they should sell a replacement deflector. Also it arrived covered in an excessive amount of thick, sticky rancid smelling oil I’m assuming they put on for rust prevention. I had to wash it off first or I’m sure it would have hardened to the surface once heated. The last one wasn’t like that. I hope it lasts another ten years. Also don’t bother with the stainless steel version unless you like the look and spending extra money. Same insides so it will last just as long.

Perfect size for 2 people
Love it. I take it hunting fishing and camping and when not in use I use it at work to cook on at least 3 times a week. Very even cooking once warmed up

I love this thing
This perfectly solves the major drawback of a pellet grill, which is the long lead time needed to do just a couple of quick burgers and dogs. When positioned on the single sidekick burner it gets CRAZY HOT CRAZY FAST- goes past the 700 degree mark and pegs the dial on the other side. It’s also very thrifty on propane use, especially if you are coming from a larger traditional gas grill. Some caveats to be aware of: 1. The cast iron grill grates have a very rough texture and are hollow on the back side. This makes them difficult to clean. 2. If you look at the grates funny they start to rust. I am experienced with cast iron, but the starter seasoning they put on is no match for the extreme temps this thing can get to. My advice would be to resist the temptation to go on max until you build up a nice layer of seasoning. 3. Don’t go any higher than medium, at least at first. I decided to go nuts and see how fast I could cook steak. I ended up ruining a lot of good meat. At high temps the rate of drippage is so fast that your flare-ups overwhelm the food and all you can taste is carbon. Practice a few times before trying any good cuts of meat. Overall, I have never had the pleasure of having such high levels of heat available to me on command. Like all powerful tools, it requires more of the operator to learn and master, but I can comfortably recommend this to anyone who wants to add on to their Woodwind pellet grill (and who already has the side burner accessory).

The camp chef bbq seemed to be decent quality build but did find the cooking temps were uneven across the grill. Could have maybe put cooking stones in it for better heat deflection than the metal deflector plate below the grill.

I know that you have to watch the temperature. But it works great

A great addition to our camp-chef set-up that allows us to bbq steaks and burgers better than the grill can while still having a burner for whatever else we have cooking. Makes camping meals a little more glamorous!
