Vanguard Porta Aim Gun Rests

This item is a mid range item at a mid range price. I think that it is absolutely ideal for someone like me who is returning to shooting, is not interested in hunting, but loves firing an air rifle at targets up to and including 55 metres. So what do you get? A sturdy tripod based gun rest, which will be more than adequate to use as a bench rest or for firing in the prone position. I have thre rifles, a Gamo whisper sting, an FAC Weirauch 80K, both of which being break barrel rifles are not really suited to fittinga bipod, on the other hand, this rest, with its v shaped pillow is ideal. My other rifle is an S400, soon to be replaced with a BSA CLX. I don’t like bipods in use or to fit and therefore this rest suits me for bench or ground when in the prone position. Firing the Gamo is fairly straightforward, but the Weirauch at 18+ft lbs is a different rifle altogether and whilst it’s weight helps control the power this rest is a fantastic aid to support a powerful “springer”. Build quality is excellent, the aluminium tripod legs when opened offer a degree of resistance, but more importantly offer a very steady, indeed rigid, rest. The pillow itself is well filled and whilst I tend not to use the velcro fastening for the "springer" I do for the PCP and it holds the stock and barrel nicely. I particularly like the single handed height adjuster, which is smooth, but when the adjuster ring is dropped into place holds the gun firmly locked and exactly where you set it. Far far far better than a bag in my view and well worth £44.99.

Sturdy gun rest very portable and feels like its a nice quality long lasting stand

This rest is great. Very study and easy to carry around. Height adjustment is simple to use and can be done 1 handed. Tripod legs fold out making it stable when shooting. I use this on a spring powered air rifle.

I had read a few negative reviews on this about quality etc so I can only speak for the one I recieved. It's excellent, if a small portable rest is what you need for bench or prone shooting then this is superb. The movement and quality are good for the price as is the beanbag. The screw attaching the top mount is the correct size and the rubber feet and general feel are quality. It's very stable and swivels nicely and quietly. May take a few seconds to get it initially set up but overall very pleased.

Bought about a year ago, at 75% the price it is now. Still looks brand new. Only four stars as the padded top could overhang the metal plate it sits on. The fact it doesn't makes it very easy to dent the stock. Very sturdy construction but still light weight.

Very sturdy well made. Good that rest comes away from main body so I can swap over to rifle clamp. 8 1/2" to12" with legs out . Overall agood bit of kit but would say a little overpriced could of been a tenner cheaper

Good, clever height adjustment with lock. So much easier to use one of these than drill your stock for a bipod, plus has the benefit of being able to use with all your rifles. Bought to upgrade from a cheaper item, wish I'd bought this first time round.

Great ightweight trip pod, well made and easy to use.

Excellent light weight rest. As CL stated there is a screw that sticks out through the rest. However, you can overcome this by placing two metal spacers or washers under the rest before you screw the legs into the rest and then I placed a felt pad over the hole where the screw goes. Works. The other option is to shorten the screw. I don’t know why Vanguard does not shorten the screw as it is not necessary to have it this long. They can do it easily. Otherwise it’s great! The Rest will take my Protektor pad instead of the one supplied by Vanguard. It is a better quality but a wee bit heavier because of the different filling, however, it is the same size. Highly recommended!
