No more germ-harbouring bristles
I've never been able to find a loo brush which cleans properly and can itself be properly cleaned - and I've had loads of the confounded things in various houses where I've lived over time. So, when a large clump of my (not particularly cheap) latest one fell off into the toilet bowl as I was cleaning (scaring me half to death because it looked like a large black spider), I decided to do some serious research again. These 'blade' toilet brushes were the only new and untried thing around, so I bought one to try. The price was reasonable for a tryout and, as I was buying from Amazon I was hardly taking a risk.As soon as the Toiletmaid arrived I cleaned both loos in the house. We have very hard water so I sprayed a little descaler into the bowls as well to see if I could remove the limescale (which is never allowed to build up, but which is ever-present because of our bad limescale problem). I'm an experienced cleaner so, after a couple of minutes, I'd worked out a method and that was it.This is an excellent way to clean loos - hats off to the designer for reinventing a basic tool from the - er - bottom up.After use I just run the blade under the flushing water, give a couple of bangs of the thing on the edge of the bowl, and that's it. If there are any drips (although if you develop your technique there needn't be) you could, as another reviewer has mentioned, use a piece of loo paper. The holder, however, will hold water for a couple of inches so there's no need to worry. The best thing is that a silicon blade is not going to harbour germs in the same way as does the bristles of a brush. The second best thing is that the Toiletmaid takes up far less space than does a brush and its holder, and the Toiletmaid can be discreetly fixed to the wall near the cistern. I have wallpaper on the bathroom wall so the sticker provided with the Toiletmaid's hook is fine and it was a matter of seconds to fix it in place (I left it twenty-four hours after that before actually hanging the Toiletmaid on the hook, just in case the glue needed time to cure completely). I've just ordered a second Toiletmaid for the shower room loo and I will probably have to use the screw provided for that hook because the mosaic tiles are tiny and it may well be asking too much of the adhesive on the pad to stick to tiles and grouting as well - however it's good to have the choice.I think this is an excellent alternative to the conventional loo brush - so hats off to the designer, Anne Edge (she signed my invoice!).Highly recommended.

is easy to use
Once you have owned one of these you will never consider a traditional toilet brush ever again. The design is simple yet highly effective and because you dont have bristles or corners that trap dirt as in the case of a brush you can keep it clean by merely rinsing it off or wiping it clean with a disposable anti-bacterial wipe. I have been using it for a few months and it does not smell, is easy to use, easy to clean and durable. This will last a long time and is well worth the extra money over a traditional brush. Get one!It will not reach under the toilet rim easily and the bracket for mounting the holder is not sturdy which is why I gave it 4 out of 5 but this is sooooo much better than a brush.

Good idea but not what I would use
Better than the dreaded brush but not too sure yet as not had it long enough, basically a good idea. Easy to keep clean which is the main thing.

Good idea - doesn't work as well as I hoped!
Had high hopes for this! I do love a good reinvention of a classic item! I liked the idea of no more dirty bristles, but I can't get the tough stuff out with this! Plus, to clean the blade itself I've had to buy some para zone flushable wipes to clean the blade

Not my thing.
I found it too bendy to get anything more tough off. Difficult to clean. Case feels very cheaply made. Great idea but not for us.

A simple, but oh so very welcomed addition to my toilet!
Well maybe I am exhibiting some slightly weird kind of character flaw in getting so excited about a toilet brush (or, I guess it's more of a non-brush!). Well I don't care if I am getting a little over-excited! This simple but practical solution to one of life's more tedious tasks is potentially a life-changing tool.Frankly, I find that conventional toilet brushes are one of this planet's most hideous inventions. To have clustered bunches of bristles on the end of a stick might be good for 'shifting things' and cleaning the bowl — but you are then left with a fairly disgusting implement that is difficult to clean in itself (and I dread to imagine the horrors that stubbornly lurk between the bristles). Ugh! I realise that it's not the easiest of tools to design but personally I have always hated the traditional toilet brush.I have been searching for something that might tackle the type of situations that befall a toilet, but without the bristles-brush. Well I have found it "Eureka!" (pardon the pun). The Toilet Maid is brilliant. It's not over-engineered and the 'spatula' part is made from a very good glossy type of silicone which seems to shrug off any clingy matter very easily. The spatula also has just the right amount of flexibility too. A final swill from the toilet flush or wipe with toilet paper is all the Toilet Maid would ever need. A well conceived and practical approach to the needs of any toilet user (and I think that includes most of us!).I know that this is a subject that some people might consider difficult to discuss but I am so impressed (and I have only received my Toilet Maid today!) that I felt compelled to give this product my absolute "Thumbs up!"I believe that there's also a chrome-colour-handled variety, which costs a little more, and I imagine that would also look rather good in the bathroom. Thanks to the inventor — you have addressed an important need for me!UPDATE: So impressed with the first Toilet Maid I ordered, so, after a few weeks I have decided to purchase a second one for another bathroom. Couldn't decide whether to order the plain white one again or go for the chromed variety. In the end I opted for the plain white standard Toilet Maid. The Toilet Maid is now considered an essential part of our bathroom's facilities.

Works well and very hygienic!
Amazingly enough this brush works really well and removes residue. You still need a bristles brush to clean with bleach from time to time but for everyday use it's great. I attached mine on the side of the cistern so it leaves the floor accessible for cleaning. Perfect for families with explorative crawling babies! The only downside is the plastic of the holder could be a bit brighter white as it looks a tad bit grey esp against a new bright white suite.
