Excellent for Linux
This is an excellent device that works perfectly with Linux despite the "Windows Only" description. I use it to connect a work laptop running Ubuntu (20.04) to dual 4K 60Hz monitors and it worked straight away with no set-up or configuration needed. I bought this to solve an annoying problem I had with Startech's other very similar looking TB3 monitor adapter, the one with dual HDMI ports at 4K 60Hz. I was using that one before, but it suffered from washed-out colours on the monitors, which I discovered is a known (and still unresolved) problem with Intel integrated graphics and TB3 monitor adapters that use HDMI. As soon as I plugged this in instead I could tell the colours were fixed, and it's been running every day for the last few weeks without trouble. So if you're on Linux and want to connect a TB3 device to dual 4k 60Hz monitors, I'd highly recommend picking this up (it's far smaller and cheaper than an external GPU), even if that means buying displayport to HDMI adapters, as it'll work without any hassle and won't suffer from any colour issues. It also runs cooler than the HDMI equivalent and is even a bit smaller in size.

Worked on my XPS13 9360 running on Linux Ubuntu 17.04
Moving away from Apple laptops I was worried that wouldn't be able to continue using my Apple thunderbolt display 27 inch screen. This device worked on my XPS13 9360 running on Linux Ubuntu 17.04. I was able to drive my Apple thunderbolt display 27 inch screen (and integrated audio in it) as a second display. Worked first time, no driver needed, no problem (Linux rocks...). Only caveat was that I was not able to use the USB or the network adaptor at the back of the screen. It seems that the thunderbolt adaptor sees the display as an HDMI device only rather than as a docking station (which is should normally be with a Mac). However it was my main goal to be able to reuse this unusual screen which does not have standard connectors like HDMI or Display Port, etc... This Startech adaptor meant I didn't have had to sell my Apple thunderbolt display 27 inch screen.

Attached cable is what spoils it
This adapter works perfectly. I use it to connect my Thunderbolt 3 laptop to my Caldigit TS2 docking station. The main problem it has is the "embedded" USB-C cable. It is very short and therefore fiorces you to keep the device next to the laptop. This is not always practical. For example, if you have a laptop stand on your desk, or even a laptop arm to place your laptop, the adapter will generally hang from the laptop in the air, applying tension to the wire. I have a laptop arm which is the worst as the laptop is quite high from the desk. I used double-sided tape to attach the device under the tray of the arm and run my TB2 cable from the device through the arm down to the docking station. Even so, doing a 180 turn with the cable to insert into the laptop is very tight and I think will eventually wear the cable out. I would prefer it if I could stick (with double-sided tape) the adapter on my docking station instead, but this is not possible due to the length of the attached cable. A much better design would've been if they simply had two female ports (TB3 and TB2) so you can run your own TB3 and TB2 cables, of whatever length you need. This would've been much more versatile and reduced the cost of the device.

Won't work with TB2 hard drive
Doesn't work at all. Bought to use my old TB2 Lacie External drive with new mac and it won't read at all. Had to fork out the extra for an apple one instead. For now I have to make do with a usb3 to Micro B 116mbps connection. Don't waste your time with this Chinese crap.

Great product - three screens
I used this item to connect two Dell U2417H monitors to a Dell XPS 15 9550 laptop. To do this I bought two HDMI - HDMI 1 mtr cables from Wilko at £2 each, and made all three screens work independently by interfacing them with this StarTech.com Thunderbolt 3 to Dual HDMI Adapter - 4K 30Hz - (Windows Only Compatible). I'm running with Windows 10 and it was "plug and play". (My system is not 4K, but the adapter works anyway). All three screens appeared in "Display Manager", and were simple to configure. Only one problem on setting up, the system was silent, when I added the adapter it diverted the sound from the laptop speakers to the non existent speakers in the monitors, knowing that, it was a simple task to reverse the process and set the laptop speakers as the default. The Adapter works hard and gets warm, this is to be expected, it's not too hot to handle. The lead from the Adapter to the Thunderbolt port is 12 inches long; I would prefer longer, but it's not a problem. The Startech help desk was fast, knowledgeable and helpful. Update: Its now 26 June 2018, and I have experienced no problems with the above set up running 8-12 hours a day/365.

Amazing product - This works a treat
I have been looking for a while at how to create a duo independant display setup to use with my macbook air 2018 (OS Catalina). I also have 2 Hanns-G 24" screens. Just plug in play around with your screen arrangement, no need to download any drivers either. Works perfectly. No lag between the screens either. I just have to say thank you to the tech people at StarTech.com who guided me through through to which product would be suitable. The price was pretty amazing too. Got it on here for £87.30 RRP £165.59. StarTech website doesnt do it that cheap, but the tech people are amazing.

This adapter allows you to seamlessly extend dual monitors and the USB-C port connects to PC AND mac mini m4!!! I've tried 10 other adapters to get this quality setup and THIS is the only one that works flawlessly!
