I’m sure this would work on many knives but I bought this to go with my Robert Welch knife set. It’s simple to use and very effective. A few strokes after each use and it keeps my knives super sharp. The sharpening wheel can be replaced at a reasonable cost too so will last forever. Nice neat design with non slip bottom which fits neatly in the draw between uses.

Excellent sharpener - no real skills needed and it puts a correct 15 degree edge on Japanese knives. I have a mix of Robert Welch and Global and it gives them a razor edge especially if you use a leather strop afterwards.

Having recently bought a high quality (very expensive) Robert Welch (RW) knife, I wanted a sharpener to match. As many will know there's quite a choice of sharpeners out there. In the end, I chose RW's own as, logically, it should match the quality of their knives. Yes, I had taken note of some of the negative reviews. However, I'm pretty sure that some of these are, as is often the case, user error. I've read & applied the instructions carefully. The RW sharpener does a great job, used properly, and I've even managed to sharpen some scissors. You get what you pay for, usually, and this product isn't overpriced for its ease of use & performance.

I've always had trouble sharpening knives with a sharpening steel as I could never get the angle right. This product is very easy to hold/use and does sharpen knives effectively. You need to persevere with really blunt knives though as the x20 recommended strokes it suggests may be fine for already sharp knives, but isn't anywhere near enough to sharpen blunt ones properly. It took nearer x200. Happy with product though and would recommend.
