Yes, it is vacuum sealed. Once you open it, pour into a freezer-safe container that will seal tightly and store in the freezer. It will last a very long time when kept this way.

I keep mine in the freezer so I don’t worry about the expiration date.

Why is it hard as a brick when getting it? I ordered two one was soft a malleable the other is hard as a brick

It is vacuumed packed. When the seal is broken, it becomes the individual granules of yeast, soft and malleable. One package must have had the seal compromised, probably by a small hole in the packaging somewhere. Once you open the other package, it will be soft and malleable.
