Watch out hills, old school tech has come!
Bought as a treat for finishing my Munros, I discovered that my budget didn't stretch to one of these new-fangled digital smart watches for the outdoors. So I wen't old school and got a Casio. Do I use the functions? Yes, to an extent. The alti- needs calibrating but is accurate enough; the thermo- just reads the temp near your wrist, so is only useful measuring the temp if you have it off overnight for example - or wear it clipped to a backpack/jacket; baro - is pretty good - and is a good predictor of change, though you should be aware of that yourself!! Compass is spot on. The manual isn't that, it's a novel of the "War and Peace" variety! Epic! Looks good, I intended using it for the longer expeditions - but it has now displaced all the other older Casios (well, 2!). I even wear it to work, and I have a fair few watches. It is big but light, and the dark (invert colour) face works for me, but maybe not everyone.

Absolutely excellent, magnificent.
This watch is the business. I have owned several Casio watches in my life, this one is my best to date. Exactly as described and matches the pictures accurately. I found it relatively easy to set, master and configure due to Casios be very identical in button layout and instructions. At this price it is a steal. You have a watch on your wrist worth over £140.00 for £77.40. It is full of features, not heavy at all, but it is big on your wrist, so might be a bit of getting used to. I am thinking of upgrading the strap from the resin plastic one to a metal clasp one if one is compatible. If you are looking for a multi function watch get this and you will not be disappointed.

Good watch for the money
Good watch for the money, much lighter in weight than I expected. All in all and good all rounder

Al the important features of a ProTrek but with a cheaper strap (and a cheaper price!)
Basically a ProTrek on the cheap. It's about a third of the price of a ProTrek though, so there's been some cost-cutting - the strap is thinner than a ProTrek strap (more like the strap on a £10 Casio), the buckle is plastic, the bezel doesn't turn, the glass is plastic rather than glass (although it's well protected by being set quite far down below the bezel), and it's battery rather than solar powered. The purple surrounding the dial isn't as vivid as the picture, in fact it's more of a dark blue (sadly, as I like bright purple!) There are some 80s style graphics on the strap proclaiming its features. The triple sensor display is very similar to ProTrek displays, this version has a nice and clear positive LCD display. The case is mainly plastic, but the bezel and purple surround are metal. I bought it mainly for the compass function whilst out walking (which is pretty accurate), however I've actually found the barometer the most useful function. You can have the barometer graph (which shows the barometer rising and falling over a period of time) instead of the date when you're in timekeeping mode, meaning you always know whether the weather is going to improve. The thermometer is within half a degree of the central heating thermostat, so long as you leave it off your wrist (otherwise body heat will lead to inaccurate readings). There's an altimeter too, but I've not used this. Oh, it's also got what the case back proudly proclaims is "super illuminator" - two bulbs to light the watch instead of one! The bulbs are a nice bright white colour. There are two other versions of this watch; one with green buttons, a plastic strap and a negative LCD display (which are always harder to read) and one with orange accents, a cloth strap and a positive LCD display. I wish I'd bought the one with the cloth strap. I may yet buy it... All in all, a great featured watch for the great outdoors, with the added benefit of being significantly cheaper than a ProTrek with the same features would be. The important part - the module and sensors - appear to be the same as in ProTrek watches three time the price. It's just a shame about that purple surround - it's just not purple enough!

Complicated
I am sure the watch is great, but both my wife and myself spent ages trying to set it up properly and failed. Instructions bit rubbish. In the end just sent it back.

Casio SWG - 1000 Watch.
I had a similar watch years ago,and was suprised to see it still being sold. The new watch is different in design but appears to have the same facilities. I bought it as my 2016 Christmas present and if I get the same life from this one that I did from my previous one I will be more than happy. Its a good watch at a reasonable price, thank you Casio, its nice to see a similar watch thats still being made in 2016, I think the first one I got was in about the year 2000. So many companies rely on bringing out new lines and the older items get discontinued, its nice to see a company that uses todays technology on older successful ideas, bringing out the same concept but with a different design and advanced microchips. Roll on spring when the bulbs start coming through the soil. George Watson at 19.03 hours on Wednesday the 30th of November 2016.

This is a chunky and robust watch ideal for the walking and trekking that I do. It is easy to read and has an excellent range of additional features such as alarms, stopwatch and climatic information such as temperature. I found it a bit tricky at first to set up but a bit of patience, practice (and many re reads of the manual) meant this was done in due course. The only real niggles that I have found so far are that the instructions are in very small print and the alarms are quite quiet. I would not want to rely on these to wake me early without a back up e.g. phone. Also not sure how accurate the watch measurements will be but I will test them in due course but they do, at least, give an indication of the information required. All in all I am delighted with this watch which was delivered quickly and securely and came with presentation case (useful if it is to be a gift).

Almost......
OK so its a Casio - great build quality right?. Not quite. The accuracy of all the functions is spot on and theres no arguing with that. It has Version 3 sensors so its the same as the more expensive ProTrek version. Its not solar but the battery is 2 years so no dramas there as its user changeable. The only flaw with this watch is the feel of it - it feels less well built than a Protrek. The strap is the main flaw - its mega thin and flimsy and I guess on some wrists it would be a bit uncomfortable. Some internet forums suggest changing the strap for a PRG270 one as its better and it fits however these are twenty pounds or so and it kind of negates the reason for not buying the ProTrek in the first place. Think of this watch as a bash about ProTrek that you wouldnt mind abusing and you are on the right track.
