Inventors, explorers, and others
A three dvd set containing all the episodes of season seven of Horrible Histories. The popular children's show based on the bestselling history books. All of the original cast of the first five years have moved on by now, and none feature here. There are a new group of regular and semi regular performers here. And they're all really good. All episodes run twenty five to twenty eight mins [approx.]. And as usual it brings history to life with a mixture of sketches about famous subjects, all linked with narration from puppet rat Rattus Rattus. As usual as well there are references to bodily functions, but never in a gratuitous way. Rather to highlight how horrible certain aspects of sanitisation used to be, This batch of episodes takes the format of having a different subject for each. And weaves a narrative around them. It looks, among other things, at Music. Inventors. Explorers. Heroes and Villains. Health. Dynasties. The Russian Revolution. And more. There are several recurring sketches that crop up every so often, based on certain current tv shows. This is a consistently funny batch of episodes, that are silly enough for the kids and fun for the grown ups. And they will teach all ages fascinating facts. Like who invented the sell by date. Among other things. The format for these episodes really does allow them to do the subjects justice as well. There are some excellent songs as ever, based on certain familiar tunes. The first twelve episodes here are all new, but the last three are, as ever, compilations using material from the first twelve. But with totally new linking material. And a special guest star in the first of these three. The dvd has English Language subtitles. A series well on form, and great fun for all. Well worth five stars.
