SHARPAL 101N 6-In-1 Pocket Knife Sharpener and Survival Tool, with Fire Starter, Whistle and Diamond Sharpening Rod, Quickly Restore and Hone Straight and Serrated Blade

Although I do like to think of myself as a jungle craft experienced John Rambo. I bought this to sharpen my kitchen knives. I am the Rambo of the Parlour. In use it works very well. You have 2 different sharpeners. The carbide one, labelled "1" and the ceramic one, labelled "2". The carbide one is the one I use the most, it really sharpens the blade. Don't have the sharpener upright when you use it. Tilt it away from you about 20 degrees, then pull the blade straight through. You will really feel, and hear the cutting action. 1 or 2 pulls through is all it takes to tone up a knife. (if it's very blunt then you will need to repeat the process). You can then do the same on the ceramic slot, if you wish to finely hone the blade, but with general kitchen knives, I don't really find that necessary. There is an arrow on the top, telling you which way to pull the knife. In use I've found that you can hold the sharpener either way round, the cutting action is pretty much the same in both directions. Great for us left handers. You can of course also do it the other way around. Have the blade facing upwards and run the sharpener along the blade. You probably have more chance of cutting yourself doing it this way, but try them both. See which you prefer. As it is a survival tool it does have some other features. A whistle, that is very loud, although you must give it a good hard blow. Perfect for announcing dinner is ready. It also has a sparking rod for starting fires. It does arrive covered in a black coating, which you will need to remove by pulling it through the carbide slot before it will work. It does work though, you need to give it a good hard pull at an angle, but do it right and you're met with a shower of sparks. You do need to pull it through a few times, I'm guessing that the rod oxidises and you have to scrape this layer off. I'll admit, it's not that useful in the kitchen, but who knows, come the zombie apocalypse.... It also has a carbide encrusted rod for sharpening serrated edges. That's actually quite useful as it's great for sharpening up a bread knife. Overall, I think this is a great buy, even if like me you only buy it for your kitchen knives. It works very well and it's nice and compact. I hope you found this review helpful.

Very happy with this tool. Primarily bought for the knife sharpener and it sharpens knives to a fair standard, is very easy to use. Perhaps not as good as a whetstone but good enough to put an edge on kitchen knives quickly. Great design means it easily fits in your pocket if you want to take it on the go maybe camping perhaps. Only time while tell how long it will last but seems well built.

Good for sharpening a pocket knife or utility knife. I tried it for some fine sharpening of a kitchen knife but it just does not give a clean enough finish. Also good when on holidays when staying at an Air B&B where the knives are always blunt.

This is a excellent bit of kit really puts a edge on your knife with very little effort

Have had one of these before until I had misplaced it. Handy little tool to have on you while out in the field. I currently stalk for deer and when the opportunity presents itself the animal is required to be managed in the field, often resulting in a blunt knife half way through if you do not sharpen it often enough. This little sharpener has pulled me out of a few situations like this. It easily fits in your pocket and gives the option for putting an edge back on your blade and refining it. Luckily enough I have not had to use the flint function too often but it works as stated. The file is also a useful tool to sharpen your blade or fishing hook when you are out and about. One disadvantage would be the whistle. I wouldn’t rely solely on this in an emergency situation as it is not that loud or consistent. In summary this would be a great purchase that will pull a few hunters or even home chefs if your blade lets you down. Not a rip off price either.

Normally buy Fiskars versions but this caught my eye. Fiskars are extremely good and this appears to be also, but not used much so time will tell. Compact enough to take with you, but large enough to be an effective sharpener. Fire starter is handy and effective.

Molto ben fatto, funzionale, leggero e comodo. L'ho usato per affilare coltelli, per affilare la falce ed altri strumenti da lavoro. E' economico, leggero e ben fatto, ha tutto quello che serve per affilare e tenere in funzione strumenti anche pesanti. L'affilacoltelli Victorinox fa esattamente la stessa cosa di questo: mangiando un po' di lama rifà il filo. Non lo userei quindi su costosi coltelli forgiati ma lo uso su tutti i coltelli stampati che ho, soprattutto quelli da esterno! Prova del taglio carta superato anche dal falcetto! Insomma, affila bene, costa il giusto ed è pratico, un must per me!

Je viens de recevoir mon second sharpal, après des années de pierre japonaise etc .... j'ai voulus testé une méthode différente et surtout moins casse co**** que les pierres à aiguisé . Je fais beaucoup de randonnée et je vais entamé bientôt des road trip en italie, allemagne etc et que dire mise a part que ce produit et juste idéal ! - Ultra léger 6 en 1 - Sifflet de survie - fireSteel de secours et L'aiguisage qui pour l'instant est parfait je l'ai pas encore testé sur mes couteau Joker de bushcraft, Joker Nomad et Joker Avispa je ferais une update je pense quand ils auront perdue de leur tranchant pour l'instant aucun aiguisage nécessaire . Bref j'ai aiguisé mon opinel de survie et mes opinel de maison et franchement bravo !!! Je préparer de la viande pour mon déshydrateur, impossible de faire de fine tranche, après 10 passage sur le sharpal pour testé, j'ai réussi à faire des tranches d'une épaisseur de 2-5 mm facilement, En regardant la lame au soleil on aperçoit parfaitement l'aiguisage qui est top . Bref pour la rando/bushcraft etc foncé

Very neat nifty gadget, works very nicely to reshape and sharpen knife blades, will work on titanium blades but I wouldn’t recommend sharpening those often on this. For thicker knives like the gerber strongarm knife it will score the side of the black oxide layer off if you aren’t careful. The flint and steel part works almost flawlessly, the reshapen rube tool won’t work well, and the ceramic sharpening side similarly doesn’t produce much sparks with the flint, the reshapen part does work flawlessly when you get the hang of it. I’d recommend based on the price and small form factor but I’d love to see one that’s more designed for larger/thicker knives.

Ein nützliches kleines Tool mit guten Eigenschaften, hält was es verspricht. Es ist alles so wie beschrieben, ist super verarbeitet, und passt prima in eine Hand. Ist auch nicht zu schwer, es ist sehr leicht, ist deswegen auch gut geeignet für die Hosentasche. Ein kleiner Helfer für unterwegs. Ich möchte kurz auf das schärfen eingehen, denn da gibt es etwas zu beachten. Wenn man ein Messer schärfen will, auf der Keramik Seite, dann kann es passieren das es stumpf wird, weil die Klinge dann nicht unbedingt dafür geeignet ist, bzw. die Maße der Klinge nicht unbedingt dafür geeignet/ausgelegt sind, und dann kann man schleifen wie man will, und es bleibt stumpf, den Hinweis hatte ich hier auch schon gelesen, kann ich nur bestätigen. Dafür hat es aber andere gute Eigenschaften, und zwar kann man dort prima mit großen Klingen ran, wie Küchenmesser zum Beispiel, und das Ergebnis ist dann wirklich gut, das Messer ist hinterher sehr scharf. Man kann den Schärfer zum schärfen auf den Tisch stellen, dann zieht man die Klinge nach hinten, oder dabei in der Hand halten, dann zieht man die Klinge nach unten durch. Das geht auch wunderbar in die Spitze rein, die Spitze lässt sich mit dem Gerät zum Teil besser schärfen als mit anderen/vergleichbaren Geräten. Man sollte zum Anfang erst mal mit einem Messer über die Keramik gehen, bis sie etwas schwarz ist, weil dann das Ergebnis einfach besser ist, sich besser schärfen lässt. Auch habe ich die andere Seite bereits verwendet, und die zieht eine wunderschöne Kante! Also wenn ein Messer jetzt defekte Stellen aufweist sag ich mal, dann kann man diese Stellen damit relativ gut ausgleichen, ohne zuviel Material abzutragen. Hinterher dann einfach schleifen, mit der weißen Keramik scharf machen, und den Vorgang solange wiederholen, bis das Ergebnis stimmt. Zum testen ob scharf ist, reicht ein Stück Zeitung, man sieht und merkt dann schnell, ob es reißt oder schneidet. Es sollte aber tatsächlich ein einzelnes Stück Zeitung sein, nur eine dünne Seite. Zum Feuerstein Der Feuerstein funktioniert einwandfrei, allerdings erst dann, wenn das schwarze abgetragen ist. Es ist dann silber, und dann funkt es. Man zieht den Feuerstein dabei durch die Wolfram-Karbid-Schleifeinheit, mit der man auch die Schnittkante in die Messer zieht, und zwar nach hinten weg, und es funkt dann nach unten. Der Griff ist aus Gummi, bietet einen guten Halt, und das Gerät steht auch sicher auf dem Tisch, da stört nix. Der Feuerstein sitzt sicher an seinem Platz, fällt also nicht ständig heraus. Der ,,diamantenbesetzte" Schleifstab, sitzt sicher, rastet ein, und lässt sich auch auf der anderen Seite einrasten, um z.B. Messer oder Angelhaken schleifen zu können, da kann man dann genügend Druck ausüben, damit das Ergebnis auch stimmt. Besonders Angelhaken schleifen zu können, ist ein ziemlich seltener Luxus. Die Signalpfeife funktioniert! Alles in allem ein tolles Produkt, welches vor allem für Küchenmesser bestens geeignet ist! Also der Preis ist hier durchaus gerechtfertigt, es ist jetzt für einen Messerschärfer nicht unbedingt billig, aber dafür hat man dann ein tolles kleines Tool, mit dem man sogar Angelhaken scharf machen kann, und auch Messer mit Wellenschliff! Besonders die Möglichkeit ,,Angelhaken", oder ,,Messer mit Wellenschliff" zu schärfen, ist schon ex­qui­sit! Das sieht man nämlich eher selten, oder besser gesagt, überhaupt nicht. Also früher gab es das nicht! Feuer kann man damit auch noch machen - tolles Produkt!
