It is a little tricky to assemble, but it is also fairly straightforward once you have read through the diagrams. For me it was easy. Others might not agree, but we are not all equally capable. It is smooth to operate, full flow without restrictions, mainly down to the clever internal connector with is a breath of fresh air compared to HL version with the spring!!! Yes it is a bit more expensive, but quality shines through and if you want a hose reel to last and survive the abuse it can be subject to, by the Gardena version any day. Love it

After ordering a 30m SuperFLEX hose from Gardena it suddenly struck me when researching that it's actually quite hard to buy a decent hose-reel that doesn't include a hose with it. Most of them are built in. This was the first and most promising one I found. The fact it was from Gardena a brand I own various garden items from made my purchase. It's not cheap - around £60 - especially when you consider you need to buy a separate hose connection which can cost an additional £15+ (for the Gardena one) as well. That said, I'm a little fed up of using the well known "yellow brand" for years and having their kit fall apart after a year or so. This feels pretty solid. I'd guess some sort of ABS plastic. It comes in several parts, and is a little tricky to put together, mainly around the area you have to "plumb in" the main hose connection. It took a bit of force to make sure it was seated properly, but it seems pretty solid once all together. There is a wall plate that you need to fasten onto the wall via the supplied screws. This means you can then lift the hose-reel on and off the wall at your convenience. It doesn't have to always be fixed there. The bracket is low profile enough to not be an eyesore when left there. The reel holds up to 60m of 13mm hose I believe, so it was more than enough for my 30m. It feels strong on the wall. it winds in well, especially when used in conjunction with the included angled hose guide you can fasten to the wall separately. This guide also helps to prevent your hose from kinking. That in itself feels of good, solid quality. There is a carry handle which has convenient hose-lock points on each side to tidy up your hose when not in use. It'll also prevent any water retained in the hose from spilling when moved. It's great, and has done the job nicely despite my preference being one that has the hose held internally. I've removed a star just for the price. Simply because I think at this price it should include the connection hose too. It's a relatively small criticism though. We've been using it all summer and have had no complaints about the integrity of the item itself yet. Still going strong as I hope it will for years to come.

Strong, robust, even looks good!

Ordered this because I'd had to buy a new garden hose, which came tightly coiled and thought having it on a Hose Reel would make life easier - it does. Ordered it one day, arrived late the next afternoon and assembled it (having to do that surprised me a bit) in the lounge. Next morning it took me just over an hour to mount it on the inside wall of our garage (that's where the tap is.) Assembly was pretty easy except for getting the waterproof collar, in the central 'axle' area, screwed up tightly - could have done with longer more slender fingers! After that the really difficult part was unreeling the new hose pipe and getting out all the kinks - 50m of half-inch hose stretched up and down the drive. I then had to cut about 3m or 4m off the 50m to connect the tap to the hose reel (the tap being at the far end of the garage.) The Hose Reel comes with all necessary pieces to assemble it and mount it on a wall - bracket, screws, rawl plugs. The "missing" bits are the hose adaptors to connect the short hose from the tap to the "input" of the hose reel and one to connect the long hose to the "output" of the hose reel - I used a "stop" connector on the input side so that I can always disconnect from the reel without getting water all over the garage floor. Also, included is a free running bracket, actually designed to be screwed to a house corner, though which to smooth the running of the hose off/on the reel. I've screwed it to a flat part of the garage wall. Finally, this reel will hold 50m of half-inch hose pipe - less the 3m or 4m I used to connect to the tap!

Very pleased I bought this item. It replaced another new wall fixed hose reel that was really difficult to use. This is well designed. The design of the rotating link and the drum to prevent kinking, the fact this can be detached from the wall mounted bracket to protect the item from frost, the quality of the wall fixings, the hose guide that can be used on flat walls or corners, and at any angle. I have 40 meters of hose on the reel and there is certainly enough space for another 20. The drum diameter is sufficient to make it easy to reel in the hose and the little handle is adequate and firm at the moment. I suspect that with time it will become brittle but we will see.

Nachtrag vom 20.11.2018: Ich bin völlig verärgert über den Service von Gardena! Seit vielen Wochen versuche ich über mehrere Gardena-Mailadressen zusätzliche Teile zu bekommen. Man bekommt jedesmal eine Eingangsbestätigung mit dem Versprechen auf Rückmeldung. Danach passiert dann gar nichts mehr. Nach 4 Versuchen immer das gleiche Spiel - keine Reaktion mehr. Also per Telefon versucht. Über viele Tage nur Warteschleife, teilweise habe ich 20 Minuten ausgeharrt. Komme mir als Kunde mächtig verarscht vor und würde am liebsten die Sterne reduzieren, nur täte ich damit dem Produkt Unrecht. Also Gardena, eure teuren Ersatzteile könnt ihr weiterhin horten bis euch das Lager platzt, da am Verkauf ja anscheinend kein Interesse besteht. Auf mein Geld für die Teile dürft ihr nun auch verzichten - habe mir inzwischen selbst was gebastelt. Hoffe, das ist jetzt in eurem Sinne... Ab hier beginnt meine Originalrezension (da noch ohne Wut im Bauch) Sehr gutes System. Stabile Aufhängung, durchdachte Technik und nach Montage und vielfacher Nutzung alles absolut dicht. Von Vorteil ist, dass die Trommel im Winter einfach von der festen Halterung abgenommen werden kann. Der Clou ist das Zubehörteil mit den Umlenkrollen (lässt sich über Eck, als auch plan anbringen), welches in alle Richtungen nutzbar ist. Wenn man das an passender Stelle montiert hat, ist das Abwickeln, als auch das Aufwickeln von -bei mir- ca.60m Schlauch ein Kinderspiel, schont die Nerven und ist ruckzuck erledigt. Für mich eine echte Innovation! Hierzu sollte man aber unbedingt einen hochwertigen Qualitätsschlauch von Gardena wählen. Beim Aufwickeln einer Schlauchlänge von 60m-1/2 Zoll (ist maximal möglich) muss darauf geachtet werden, dass der Schlauch mit einer Hand sauber nebeneinander auf die Trommel geführt wird, sonst passt es nicht. Bei Schlauchlängen unter 30m (1/2 Zoll) wird das wohl nicht nötig sein und es kann "wild" gewickelt werden. Achtung! Bei Wärmeverbundfassaden unbedingt die Problematik der Befestigung beachten! Sowohl die Wandhalterung für die Trommel, als auch das Teil mit den Umlenkrollen müssen bombenfest sitzen, da bei Nutzung starke Kräfte einwirken! Ich hoffe diese Rezension war hilfreich.

I love this product. Good value for money. It accommodated my 50m garden hose perfectly. I would recommend it to anyone.
