Collins - Easy Learning Grammar And Punctuation

Bought for my grandaughter who had never been taught English grammar and syntax but was about to be tested on it. Panic! Fortunately, this guide has the lot, from basic to obscure, described simply and with examples to show each part of speech in action. It’s easy either to read in sequence, simple to complex, or to dip into answering specific questions. This book is an essential from the start of secondary school into puzzled adulthood. Brilliant.

I purchased this for my granddaughter who is doing a university degree in creative writing. She is finding it very useful for punctuation and spelling etc,.

Really easy to follow, and understand. Unlike other grammar books I found this one easy to flow with. It may not be easy for anyone else, but for me, I'm learning from it and that's the point.

I actually got an A in my English GCSEs and A level English but that was over 20 years ago so thought I’d just buy a simple, straight forward and cheap book purely to brush up on my already excellent Skills regarding my native language. How wrong was I? Spent at least a whole day going through all the different types and usages of the ridiculously amount of different punctuation, which at least half of I can safely say I’ve never used nor will in the future. I’m also the person that all my mates come to when they need a formal letter written. Polite yet firm and to the point. After reading the first chapter can honestly say and definitely wander why they come to me??? I was compared to now finishing the book, embarrassingly bad at letter writing. All those different companies I’d written to in the past must have been laughing their heads off whilst reading the dribble I’d put down lol. But at least I’ve now been schooled in a fashion that was both easily to follow, understand but was used in an actual sentence or paragraph after every section. Would definitely recommend to anyone learning English or like me just needs a reminder of one of the hardest to learn languages in the world. Thank you

Page 124 has the following unhelpful sentence: In the following examples the finite part of the verb phrase is in blue italic. Unfortunately, the printing is in black ink only. I must assume this 2015 second edition is cheaply republished and as such does not have the blue coloured font that the earlier edition must have had. Would the publishers please take note and make corrections.

Great for those studying English, or if you just want to brush on your English, I recommend this book.
