Qidi XMax 3 Plus
The Qidi X-Max 3 Plus stands out as a highly capable 3D printer, offering both a generous build volume and robust performance, making it a strong contender in the market. Its fully enclosed design is particularly beneficial for printing with challenging filaments, as it maintains a stable temperature. This printer impresses with its solid and well-built feel right out of the box. The assembly process is remarkably straightforward, offering a near plug-and-play experience that is a welcome change from more complicated setups. The expansive build area is a significant asset, enabling the creation of larger prints and batches of smaller components, thereby broadening creative possibilities. While initial experiences presented some challenges with print adhesion, Qidi's customer support proved to be exceptionally responsive and helpful. Their guidance through troubleshooting steps and effective solutions quickly resolved the adhesion issues, highlighting the excellent support service available. Once these initial hurdles were overcome, the X-Max 3 Plus truly demonstrated its value. It consistently delivers high-quality prints at impressive speeds, thanks to its Klipper firmware and sturdy mechanical design. The heated chamber is particularly advantageous for materials like ABS and ASA, as it significantly reduces warping and contributes to the production of strong, durable parts. My positive experience with this printer was so compelling that a second Qidi X-Max 3 Plus was ordered!

Brilliant 3D prints every time and great aftersales support.
I've owned the Qidi X-Max for over three years now, and it's never let me down. I print in PLA, PLA+ (190 °C) and TPU (225 °C) at 120mm/sec, and the results are always good, I reckon it could print faster too, and I'm sure I could tune the slicer more. It was not a cheap 3D printer, but it ticks all the boxes, comes supplied with a slicer, it has a HUGE print volume, an enclosure as standard (draughts are the enemy of good prints) and a geared extruder (so no messing about with bowden tubes). It comes with a second high-temp extruder...for ABS/Nylon, a top cover and some tools too but I've never needed to use those. The supplied slicer is based on an older version of Cura and it's very reliable (I use the Mac version). I contacted Qidi support and Linda sent a profile for the X-Max to use with the latest version of Cura. I've done some side by side prints (both versions of Cura), and the results were better with the supplied slicer, but I didn't do any tuning on either slicer to be honest. I did change the stock levelling knobs on the bed to larger ones (increased granularity) and replaced the levelling springs with silicone levelling columns. But I only level the printer if for some reason I've had to move it, otherwise it doesn't need levelling. I did use a dial gauge indicator just the once to help really level the bed, I'd HIGHLY recommend to anyone who 3D prints, it's a game changer. Get all four corners level with each other, and then just tune the gap between the nozzle and the printing surface. The printer does have WiFi and ethernet, but I think that the TTL value of the TCP/IP implementation means that both the printer and the computer you're printing from need to be on the same subnet. I always print via USB, so it's no hardship to be honest. I'd like to be able to disable the WiFi AP on the printer because it's an open SSID I think. The touch display is clear and bright, and the UI is very responsive, with levelling and pre-heating tools etc. Everything just works. I have used the X-Max with a Borosilicate glass build plate too, but 99.999% of the time I use the stock magnetic build mat. When I was in China recently, I contacted Linda and bought some spare magnetic print mats and some levelling sheets, which were kindly couriered next day. I want these in case I trash one printing PETG! The print head has only clogged twice, both with TPU, the material kinked. Five minute job to pop the print head off, remove the filament, it's very easy to see in there. Printer comes in a big cardboard box with excellent polystyrene protection. Would I buy another Qidi printer? Yes for certain. Why? Because it's a reliable printer, load the file, hit PRINT and come back when it's done. I do store open filament in a vacuum sealed bag with a couple of sachets of silica gel in there too. I've had PLA and TPU filament which is 2-3yrs old print perfectly when it's been properly stored.
