Stanley Kubrick: Director's Series

I think everyone will have a Kubric film in their list of favourites. I had for a long time rated many of these films highly but without actually wondering why. The extras which details Kubric's life, his passions, motivations and insights reveal why he is such a great cinematographer. Whether it is the smooth lake and road panning shot from The Shining, the majestic and poetic depictioins in 2001, the sadistic punishment and dehamanisation metted out in Full Metal Jacket or the sexual energy, thrill seeking and intrigue of Eyes Wide Shut these are must see classic movies which are unfortunately too rare. The topics are invariably of a nature suitable for adults only but can be experienced by people other than the protagonists, albeit to a much less intense degree. There is an element of prophecy in all the films; whether it is the search for meaning and knowledge in space, a failed and abusive justice system, the inherent weakness of the mind, the realisation of how severe PTSD actually is allied with the true cost of conflict and our awakening to the illusion of democracy which is controlled by a hidden and powerful ruling elite. Perhaps the real genius is that all these films are superbly entertaining irrespective of one's opinions of such controversial subject matter. They appeal to such a wide audience and are not as susceptable to devicive constraints as many other films are with regard to the viewers ethics, interests or even intellect. Kubric was seen by many as eccentric. However, all truly great people are eccentric or appear somewhat unhinged. Kubric in many ways fits this requirement. These films are true cinematic greats. For those of use who are not too sensitive to experience 18 rated films, these truely rank as masterpieces rich in feel which are visually exciting and have a worthy soundtrack. In common with all fine things, these films seem to improve with age and each time viewed.

This Stanley Kubrick boxset is really a brilliant collection of some of the great director's finest films. Every film in this collection is just wonderful, arguably Kubrick's 5 best with the exception of Paths of Glory and Dr Strangelove. Each film comes with A LOT of special features which are almost as good as the films themselves and the added 'Stanley Kubrick, A Life in Pictures' documentary is really interesting and worth seeing. This is probably the best boxset I own and should be acquired by anyone who is a fan of Kubrick's work or is relatively new to the director and wants to see some of his finest films. I would definitely get this again and the price is unbeatable, the only little criticism is that the box can be a bit flimsy and will break quite easily, but nothing is perfect! These are five of the greatest movies ever made, and each film is unique, original and visionary. It's amazing how Kubrick could transfer his genius to different genres. The documentary's also really good. I know one reviewer has complained that other films weren't included (I would've been quite glad if I hadn't have had to buy Dr Strangelove separately), but a line has to be drawn somewhere. He says he can understand leaving out Paths of Glory and Barry Lyndon, but not Spartacus. However, many fans and critics consider Barry Lyndon and Paths of Glory to be two of Kubrick's greatest works (indeed, Paths of Glory is 43rd on the IMDB top 250, higher than all of his films except Strangelove), while it could be argued that Spartacus was more of a Kirk Douglas project than a Stanley Kubrick. Anyway, at this price, one really can't complain about the movies selected for their 10 disc Kubrick collection. It's also worth mentioning that the packaging is lovely.

This is a must have for any Kubrick fan, or anyone who isn't completely familiar with his films. These are five notable works which are a must see, and to choose a favorite can be difficult. Each film is different but all have the unique vision of a legendary filmmaker. If you haven't seen any of these films then I would highly recommend picking up this set and discovering a new realm of cinema. If your a Cinephile, this is still a great collection to own. I absolutely love this DVD set. I am not going to describe the content in detail as other comprehensive reviews are already available. I really enjoyed the great extras in 2001: A Space Odyssey and Eyes Wide Shut and of course the stunning documentary A Life In Pictures. I still haven't watched the extras for the other movies but I highly recommend this DVD set coming on the market at a very competitive price.

Colección muy completa de Stanley Kubrick con mucho material extra. Las compré para verlas en versión original con subtítulos en inglés pero me pareció interesante el comprobar que todas (salvo el documental) venían también en castellano. Además, supone un gran ahorro con respecto a la edición española. Muy recomendable.

Mit dieser Box begleitet man einer der einflussreichstenb Regissuere die es jemals gab. Vergesst Tarantino, Woo oder Stone Kubrick ist der Altmeister! Leider kein Dr Strangelove oder The Killing drauf, aber diese Filme spiegeln auch eher den späten Kubrick. Wer Stragelove und Killing nicht kennt sollte sich schnellstmöglich die 3er Box mit path of glory besorgen. Full Metal Jacket The Shining Orange Clockwork Odyssee 2001 Eyes wide shut Doku über Kubrick + DEUTSCHE ORIGINALSYNCHRO ja richtig gehört, diese DVD hat auch die deutsche Tonspur (meine zumindest) also auf jeden Fall zugreifen, kostet weniger als halb so viel wie die dt. ausgabe und hat noch einen film mehr. Filme Top, Preis Top, Aussehen der Box Top macht zusammen ein Toptoptop!

Cinque capolavori di kubrick in lingua originale più altro. Nulla da dire, ottimi tempi di consegna. Ho molto gradito anche come si presenta, perfetto ed elegante se si vuol far un regalo.

I was tricked into purchasing this item. No where on the listing did it say it couldn't be played in the U.S.A. but when I got the item and tried to return it, surprise! Warnings suddenly showed up on this listing. I tried to return it to the sender, Movie Mars, but they refuse to issue a return. Now I'm stuck with this thing I can't use. This is not what I would expect from Amazon.

Esta es una gran oportunidad para hacerse con un pack de títulos muy representativos del gran Kubrick. Además de interesantes extras la edición inglesa cuenta con subtítulos en castellano y un precio económico. Muy recomendable.
