Almost Perfect & Best Thermal Carafe I've ever seen.
I am coming from a Ninja Dual Brew Pro that I loved everything about except it's brew temperature not extracting enough flavor out of my beans. I also have owned Mocha Masters, Cuisinart, and Delonghi brewers that was SCA certified that I ditched do to terrible carafe designs. Carafe 1. Best carafe I have ever used. I used to be a Coffee Ambassador for Starbucks in the days when they sold brewing equipment and have the and since had a variety of these. I don't use glass with hot plates because they destroy coffee and I'm a purist. 2. The picture is showing the temperature of a slightly less than half full carafe of coffee that sat for 7 hours. At 7 hours the coffee was temping at 148 degrees. Most run of the mill coffee makers only brew at 150-170 and out put a cup at about that temperature. This is highly impressive. 3. The lid design doesn't allow a lot of space for heat to escape - and it's brewing process doesn't require a large opening for the coffee to drip into. 4. The handles is very solid and sturdy and the carafe itself is not light of flimsy - great attention to detail here. 5. Reviews for coffee machines are often littered with people rating down because the "hot plate" doesn't heat a thermal carafe. NO THERMAL CARAFE HAS A HOT PLATE. If you want a hot plate, you must purchase something with a glass carafe. Thermal carafes are insulated and that would destroy them. Beverage Quality & Flavor I ground and brewed Starbucks whole bean Winter Blend - a coffee I am not liking - and brewed a pot in my old Ninja and the Oxo side by side. The aroma that comes out of the Oxo when pouring a cup is amazing and nonexistent from the Ninja. Out of the Ninja, the coffee was fuller bodied but bitter (why I don't like it) and out of the Oxo bad coffee was transformed into a smooth delicious cup.... I was amazed that I suddenly didn't mind what I thought were some bad beans. The body of the coffee is my one and only complaint about the OXO. Because you cannot control the brewing process at all (based on number of cups brewed, the Oxo brews each size in different ways but you can't change a setting to force a longer contact time of the water with the coffee). This results a a more watery, less fuller bodied cup of coffee but a cup that has amazing flavor. I have tried three different freshly ground beans and compared to the Mocha master and Ninja and all of them taste so much better out of the Oxo. I thought the single serve brew basket produced a better cup than brewing a full cup. Usually, these options ( like in the Ninja) don't allow enough contact time with the grinds to do as good of a job in flavor extraction as when brewing a full pot. This was not the case with the Oxo which slows down the drip time based on the size and the insert ensures full coverage from the rain head. The single service uses a cone where full pots at flat bottom - which is actually what you want as those are the best brew methods for those sizes of coffee. The only other negative which is also a positive is the brew time. The water compartment is glass (no plastics exposure which is great!). To hit the 195-205 degree SCA brew temp, the Oxo pre-heats the water in the glass chamber and then uses a second heating element during the brew process. The problem is, the pre-heat cycle for a full pot takes almost as long as it does to brew a pot of coffee. While this model has a timer, you really should pre-heat your carafe with hot water so keep in mind of setting to brew the night before, but not preheating the carafe you won't keep your temperature as long as I mentioned previously. At the end of the day, this machine makes one heck of a good cup of coffee. I would recommend - especially while it's 100 off. It fixes all the things that were wrong with the other two oxo models for sure.

Awesome Coffee Maker
This OXO 12-cup coffee maker is wonderful. I’ve used it for about a month and it’s working beautifully. It makes a perfect cup of coffee and brews quickly. I don’t find it to be noisy although, of course, when the coffee brews the water is audible as it pumps through the machine. I like that the water chamber is made of glass. The “shower head” through which water drips is very easy to remove for cleaning - and actually the entire unit is easy to clean. The coffee comes out very hot - perfect temperature. I saw some reviews that the carafe does not keep the coffee hot enough and I disagree. The carafe is not air tight — coffee has to drip in and pour out. But it keeps the coffee piping hot for at least 2-2.5 hours based on my testing. After that, the coffee does cool some but since it isn’t burning on a warming plate (GROSS), I can pop my last cup into the microwave for 20 seconds if needed. The auto-programming feature works perfectly. I also bought one for my sister and she thinks it’s great too. The machine looks clean and contemporary on the countertop. FIVE STARS for this machine. If there were anything to improve, it would be to make a gold tone filter that fits the standard (12-cup) basket. As it stands now, you have to buy OXO paper filters for this machine. I don’t mind doing that but some folks find the continuing purchase of filters to be annoying and not environmentally friendly. Finally, this machine is easy to clean. I saw some reviews complaining folks could not get their hands in the carafe to wash or dry it. I use a bottle brush to scrub the interior, no issue. I then turn it upside down while propped on a lift to air dry. If I need to dry it quickly or remove trapped water, I use a pair of tongs to stuff a paper towel in there to dry. Easy.

Cleaning/Descaling Issue
There are things I like about this coffee maker, but can't recommend based on an issue that has occurred twice now. It does brew good coffee, and the thermal carafe does a pretty good job of keeping it hot. However... For context, I only use filtered water and I brew usually 1 full pot in the morning and another 4-5 cups each afternoon. The coffee maker will periodically notify you to complete a cleaning cycle (there is a clean function). I have always completed the cleaning process every time I received the notification. approximately 6 months after I purchased, I began getting the cleaning notification more frequently (every 3-4 days). I contacted OXO customer support and they wanted me to try a slightly different cleaning process. That did not change anything, so they eventually sent me a replacement and asked me to send the old one back, which I did. I had the new one for about 8 months before the same thing began happening again. I reached out to customer support again, and they gave me another process to try. This did not help. The last interval between cleaning notifications was less than 2 days. I contacted customer support and provided all documentation they asked for. Today, they wanted me to send a video/photo of me cutting the cord on the old coffee maker before they'd send me a new one. I didn't want to be without a coffee maker in the meantime, so I resisted. They eventually said they'd send me a replacement. Unless this is just a coincidence, I'd guess there's a flaw that causes the issue. If this weren't a reoccurring issue, I'd definitely recommend. However, if I had it to do over again, I'd purchase something different. **Update: received replacement coffee maker again. After 3 brewing cycles, I'm already getting the Cleaning/HHHH notification. AVOID.

Good Coffee but Difficult to Get a Fix for Defective Carafe from OXO
I purchased "OXO Brew 12-Cup Coffee Maker With Podless Single-Serve Function,Silver" for my wife for Christmas. It looks very nice on our kitchen counter and it makes good coffee. We have used the automatic timed start several times and it works well. It did have a defect that I thought OXO would remedy quickly. DEFECT DESCRIPTION: One of the primary reasons I bought this coffee maker was the insulated stainless steel carafe. I wanted it to keep coffee hot and wanted to be able to set it on our kitchen table or dining room table. It works well to keep coffee hot but the carafe leaked/dripped around the front of the spout – between the plastic piece and the stainless steel carafe body. Every time we poured a cup, we had coffee run down the front of the carafe leaving it looking messy and it also pooled on the coffee maker pad where the carafe sits and we could not set it on our kitchen or dining room table. The leak/drips would be on the table/tableclotch. CONTACTED OXO: I contacted OXO to ask them to replace the defective carafe. I filled out the online OXO warranty replacement form. They responded in five days and asked for pictures which I provided with notes and arrows pointing out the leaks/drips. They responded and asked for my receipt and I sent a screen shot of the Amazon receipt. They responded and asked for a more complete receipt. I provided the Amazon receipt in a pdf. They responded and asked for a video showing the problem and describing how I have the lid attached. I had provided that clearly in my photos and at that point – after the form and several email exchanges, I gave up. They wore me down – I was just ‘numbed’ by OXO’s requests for so much information and the impression it created. I really wish I had never started this process with OXO. I let them know I was giving up and that I was going to write a review here with just the facts as I've described. The next day they replied and said they would replace the carafe. They said they had asked for so much info, pictures, video, etc so they could give input to their product designers. Whatever the reason, I know that if I had just returned the whole product to Amazon, Amazon's only question would have been, "What Can We Do To Make It Right?" OXO finally did replace the carafe but I’m still left feeling disappointed in the process and through it all, I felt like my integrity was in question. Maybe I'm overreacting but I felt like they were asking for item after item as 'proof' that I had a legit problem with an OXO product. In the past I have bought many OXO kitchen products. They are good quality and their packaging is good. This was my first small appliance purchase from them and I had a bad experience struggling to get a fix for a defect. Thought I’d pass along the facts of what happened. Hopefully if you buy this product you’ll have a better experience.

Pretty... but pretty inconsistent coffee. 2.5 stars.
Long term review here. I do not claim to be a certified coffee expert but I have been very into good coffee for almost 20 years, using good quality beans and grinding fresh daily. Why does anyone care? Well, it may be relevant to you if you're considering a coffee maker of this type. And I often find that if I start my day with a crappy cup of coffee, it can almost make it a bad morning. We wanted a good maker that was built well and designed to produce the gold standard cup, so I could use it daily whilst working from home, and for occasional after dinner coffee. We've been using this coffee maker in our home for almost 4 months now, and since week one it's been frustrating. Here are the good things: it looks very cool, and it heats up the water very fast, in its glass water tank (nice quality). The display panel is very nice, easy to use and program. And the insulated carafe keeps coffee hot for 2+ hours, and it is warm for many more hours. Also, it is considered to be in the category of coffee makers that make the "Gold Standard Cup" every time. The podless single cup method is great too. What We don't like about it: the coffee is great, but then it's not. One day to the next, made the exact same way, using filtered water and measured scoops with the correct ratio of scoops to cups (based in booklet it came with). Over winter holiday we used it daily and were expecting the same taste and body every time, but some days it was bold with full flavour, what I expect the "gold standard" to taste like; some days it tasted a little burned or weak, using the SAME MEASUREMENTS. We clean the pot after each use and wash the filter baskets also. And I've run the cleaning cycle when it indicated, as instructed in booklet, but it didn't improve overall performance and taste. We use it mainly at weekends, not as much on weekdays because the taste isn't always worth the effort, I default back to the French press in weekdays as that is more consistent. For a retail price of $300 we expected better. Also, the shower head is easy to remove but it's plastic, along with probably the tube the hot water takes on its way from glass tank to the shower head is also probably plastic, which I do not feel comfortable about. We asked friends for opinions when looking for this machine and many said Moccamaster (more stainless steel than plastic) or Ninja, but when we found the Oxo to look cool and fit our space best. And it was a pretty new item so there weren't many reviews or videos about it. There are more things we like than not, but for the price, the NOTs carry a lot of weight, especially when Oxo says it will brew the same gold standard cup (or pot) every time. I wish I had returned this within the 30 days but we bought it in November as a gift to ourselves and didn't open it and use it with enough time to really know. We find ourselves missing our old coffee maker we had for 18 years, it had an "aroma" button that made nice, bold coffee almost every time and it lasted a long time, and I feel like we should have tried to find it again but could not. If you choose this coffee maker, hopefully yours will perform better than ours and that you feel like it money well spent. Thank you for reading. Cheers.

First Impressions Positive
6 MONTH UPDATE: Consistently good, hot coffee, now that I understand it better So far, the brewer performs consistently and makes good tasting, hot coffee. As mentioned in earlier updates, it needs to be descaled at about 30 cycles, not at 90 cycles for good tasting, hot coffee. 1/2 tank white vinegar, 1/2 filtered water, followed by 2 tanks of filtered water and wash shower head and carafe and wipe down all internal areas. This is very time consuming, needing to be done monthly, The controls have lost some of their haptic feel, but they still work. I have minor concerns about how this brewer will perform at 5 years, just based on the controls. The rim or collar at the top of the carafe makes it difficult to wash and impossible to fully dry. You have to let it sit open on the countertop for a few hours. Your hand won't fit inside with a sponge or dish towel. The rubber tube that attaches to the screw on lid is very difficult to clean. You have occasionally submerge it in hot dishwater between monthly descaling. The overall design really should have factored cleaning and maintenance in more. Still think it needs a sealing lid, still think it is overpriced for all the extra maintenance, but still happy with it. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2 MONTH UPDATE: Reduced from 5 stars to 4 stars The coffee maker continues to brew good tasting coffee. However, to keep the brew temperature hot, you have to descale and clean monthly. Not every approximately 90 cycles as recommended by OXO. Also, using filtered water helps taste and scale build up. If you wait 90 cycles to descale, coffee will only brew warm and not taste as good. As mentioned in the original review, the carafe should have a sealed lid for keeping coffee hot after brewing. Other reviewers who stated coffee stays hot for hours. It doesn't. It just stays warm. Still happy with the purchase but the 5 cup Krups machine I have makes pretty good (and hot, with frequent descaling) coffee. And for less than $35. Would I buy it again? Yes, but for a much lower price. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ORIGINAL REVIEW: First impressions after a few uses ... I like it so far, I can't speak about reliability yet. I read several reviews on Amazon and OXO website about machines that stopped working early on. I hope that was just early production glitches. Pros: 1. After unboxing and running the first pot of water through the machine, I tested the carafe to see how long it kept water hot. I laid a dishtowel folded over four times across the top to cover the two openings in the lid. It was still burning hot an hour later. This was after brewing on the 9 to 12 cup brew setting. 2. The dark roast coffee I use brewed very bold and tasted excellent. I'll probably use one half or one full scoop less in the future. I attribute this to the bloom feature. 3. I read reviews on Amazon and OXO websites about the excess noise. It's no more noisy than any other coffee maker I've used. 4. I read reviews on Amazon and OXO websites about having to buy commercial filters. The brew basket is large. The grounds spread over a wider surface area and the shower head is wider. It evenly distributes the spray and touches all of the grounds during blooming. It's not that big a deal to buy commercial filters on Amazon. 5. The controls are easy to use. Questionable / Cons: 1. Not sure how easy it will be to clean the glass tank. The opening isn't big enough to get your hand in. I like to wipe it down when I descale. 2. When brewing on the 1 to 4 cups setting with the small basked, it doesn't heat the water in the tank for as long as the other brew settings. I'm going to try using the large brew basket and the 5 to 8 cup brew setting to heat the water longer. I like piping hot coffee. There should be more control in the settings for water heating. 3. OXO should include a second lid to help keep the coffee hot longer. The lid that's used for brewing has openings in the center for brewing and on the side for pouring. Neither opening can be sealed closed after brewing, so the carafe loses heat. Other machines, like Bonavita, include a second lid that is sealed. You push a release button to open the spout to pour into a cup. OXO please make this lid for this brewer and send it to everyone who already purchased, The dishtowel described above is a lame work around for brewer at this price point. 4. It's a 12 cup machine, but I wish it were a little shorter and slimmer. It's on the larger side. It still fits fine under the upper cabinets, but has to be slid forward to fill the tank and to brew. It emits a small amount of steam and that might deteriorate the upper cabinet bottoms over time. Side vents and a less tall brewer would address this. None of the cons are a deal breaker. If you want a SCA compliant, great tasting, piping hot cup of coffee, this brewer is worth it. More so if you can find it on sale. If reliability becomes an issue, I will update. Lastly, this machine is 1400 watts, not 1000 watts as stated in the Amazon product page.

Great!
I love this coffee machine! I read reviews, I searched, I was hesitant, I bought it. Decaf coffee is my beverage of choice. My Breville died after 10 yrs of daily use-Needed new coffee maker! There are sooo many to choose from. This is a wonderful machine. Yes, during pumping in the last bits of water is a bit loud-not a deal breaker-I don’t sleep in the kitchen! The carafe is the most balanced I’ve lifted & easy to pour when full. The handle is slightly ‘fat’ & padded. My hands are stiff & weak in the morning so this is very important to me. Thermal carafe keeps coffee hot for hours. I always brew 12 cups. Easy to move on the counter. Relatively small footprint. Easy operation & cleaning. Looks very nice. Makes great tasting coffee. I am not a coffee snob-just use really good coffee and Large brown basket type filters. I am Very pleased with my purchase! You might be delightfully surprised like I was! 👏👏🤩🙌🙌🤩 UPDATE: Jan 29, 2024. Still loving this machine! At least 1 pot/day. Easy to use, easy to set for ‘brew later’. Hasn’t missed a beat🤩 Just love it.

Best coffee maker I ever had
I had quite a few good coffee makers. I've had this one a little over a year, not a problem one. It makes delicious coffee, and the carafe keeps it hot for hours. it's easy to program and easy to clean. I saw one review that complained that it needs to be descaled every thirty days, however if you use a commercial descale solution it will not require descaling that often. I use Urnex, and don't need to descale but every 2.5 to 3 months. It does take time to heat the water to brew, and it blooms the coffee, so after the first few pumps of water it will rest a couple of minutes. After that it brews pretty quickly. I started to set the timer to brew a few minutes before I get up, so no waiting for fresh coffee in the morning! We've commented often what a difference to have it has been consistently great brew compared to our other high end coffee makers. Also, it comes with a two year warranty, which is quite good.
