I read this after reading How to Get a PhD by Pugh and Phillips and I found that book to be much better, more detailed and fewer extended metaphors. I found this book a bit too superficial in comparison (it is smaller and shorter though), with lots of metaphors about what doing a PhD is like, which some people may like, but grated on me. There are better books out there about doing a PhD.
