They are okay
Fluval is the best you can buy. Bought these to stop the algae growth and reduce cleaning time as it says in the box. I added algae liquid solution and filters did not stop the algae growth. Still have to do the usual weekly clean to get rid of the algae.

These will do the job, but they are not worth the price and I won't be purchasing them again. The fact that you are recommended to replace them each month is not cost efficient and will do more harm to your fish. There is no need to replace these, just give them a wash in the fish tank water you've removed during cleaning. Once they get to a point where you can no longer use them, you can replace them with another layer of foam instead, so you have two bits of foam each side of your filter. Even the foam should not be replaced every 6 months, it's totally unnecessary. For those of you who do wish to use floss, you can purchase a 5 metre roll from a 3rd party seller, which costs £8.99. You can then the cut roll to size and it will last you well over a year. Shop wisely!

Cost is high
In common with most filter media the cost is too high given the frequency of change and a pity they can't come up with something that uses less plastic for the same reason.

of course a great product that meets all parameters but lasts about a month and turns out to be very cost inefficient from that perspective. anyone knows of a cheaper generic option?
