Sonnics 1TB Silver External Portable Hard drive USB 3.0 super fast transfer speed for use with Windows PC, Apple Mac, Smart tv, XBOX ONE & PS4

I needed a storage device for photos and documents I have accumulated over the years, and after some consideration I decided to opt for this external hard drive. Firstly I am not a computer buff and to be honest not the most technically gifted person, so I wanted something simple to set up to transfer a number of files, folders mainly container years worth of pictures. I opted for the sonics brand with 1TB capacity, it says its ultra slim and portable and it certainly is, weighing only some 150g and fits in my hand easily also my trouser pocket! Now as mentioned I only wanted this as a back-up so I wouldn't lose many old photos and files and I must say that downloading them on the the hard drive was simple and very fast, it took no time to do and every time I have wanted to get a file I just plug in and within seconds I can locate the file or pic I am looking for. It comes with a USB 3.0 lead and is as simple as plug in and play. For my needs and convenience, portable I am giving it a full 5 stars, the 1TB comes in just under £40 at the time of writing and seems very good value.

Neat unit at a reasonable price. It saves having to fork out for a huge memory when just a small back-up is required. It reformatted easily to NTFS with two partitions. It came neatly packed with instructions and a USB 3.0 lead. No asembly required.

Hard drive is fine but by default is formatted to FAT32 meaning it won't store anything above 4gb as an individual file. You will probably need to format it so you can store your files properly.

For secure external backups a rotating HDD is a better choice than a SSD (solid state drive), they have proven lifetimes of many decades unlike the modern solid-state devices, also the prices of SSDs are ridiculous right now. Time will tell how secure this particular drive is but I have had good results so far... At first I was getting quite slow write speeds to this hard drive, around 30MB/s, but after rebooting my laptop I now regularly get over 100MB/s transfers, both read and write, so try that if your drive is slow. Also, connect directly to a USB3.0 class port on your computer, not a hub or older USB2.0 port. I've now backed up nearly 400GB of data without any problems, there is 543GB free of the 921GB total (1TB model). NB: I reformatted (using quick format) as NTFS since I am using WIndows and have files bigger than 4GB in size, the drive comes formatted as FAT32 which is quite strange, I would expect at least exFAT on a large external hard drive, FAT32 is more common for USB flash drives for example.

I bought this item as a means of backing up data. I connected the external drive and it worked perfectly well and I loaded some data as intended. The second time the drive would not work and I just received various error messages including an instruction that the drive needed formatting. I tried to format the drive but received the message that windows could not complete the action. My laptop is brand new and working. I tried the drive on another laptop and the same problem occurred. I sent an e-mail to Sonnics asking if they could advise on a solution. I received no response. I am reluctant to return the drive as faulty to claim a refund because of the data ( bank details) on the drive. I have therefore decided not to return it . Very disappointing.

Ich habe die Festplatte für den TechniSat-Fernseher meiner Eltern gekauft als Speichermedium für die Aufnahmefunktion. Nachdem ein USB-Stick nicht funktionierte und auch nicht formatiert werden konnte, hat der TV diese Festplatte sofort erkannt. Es musste nichts formatiert werden und konnte sofort verwendet werden.
