I found this starter is slightly quieter and turns my engine over faster. Great product and quite a bit less cost than oem.

I ended up buying and returning a couple different starters until I got this one. It went right in with no interference problems of the solenoid or wires. It still didn't fit in the support bracket for the engine and I had to redneck it in there, but the sucker had been going all summer long without so much as a single hiccup yet! I've accidently drowned it a time or two and it's been rained on, so the starter has definitely been put through its paces. I will definitely buy another one if this one ever dies!

Appears to be a direct fit and works well. However, I went to start my boat after a month of regular use and heard a load metallic clang, and both of the mounting bolts broke with the threads stuck in the block. Appears to be a common issue on 4.3 Mercruiser engines due to the bolts coming loose or over tightened. Make sure to purchase new bolts which can be found at most auto parts store with the knurled section below the threads, it looks like little engraved diamonds. Make sure the length of bolts is also correct so that they don't bottom out. Overall, the starter seems to do well for the price, and I'm betting the bolts broke due to the high torque and coming loose over time. I am hoping the bolts can be extracted without removing the engine.
