The UNIDEN R4 Extreme Long-Range Laser/Radar Detector is one of the best radar detectors I’ve used, offering excellent performance, reliable alerts, and plenty of features to keep you aware of speed traps and law enforcement presence on the road. Its extreme range and accuracy make it a must-have for anyone who spends a lot of time on the highway. Pros: Incredible long-range detection: The standout feature of the UNIDEN R4 is its exceptional long-range detection. It consistently picks up radar and laser signals well in advance, giving me plenty of time to adjust my speed. Even on wide, open highways, this detector can pick up signals from several miles away, which has saved me from speed traps more times than I can count. Accurate and reliable alerts: The R4 provides highly accurate alerts with minimal false alarms. It does a great job filtering out unnecessary alerts from automatic door sensors and other non-threat sources, which is often a problem with cheaper detectors. The advanced filtering technology ensures you get alerted only when it matters, keeping the ride smooth without constant beeping from false signals. Multiple radar bands covered: The R4 covers a wide range of radar bands (K, Ka, X, and laser), ensuring you’re protected from virtually any radar gun or speed trap. The inclusion of laser detection is a big plus, especially for drivers in areas where law enforcement uses advanced speed detection technology. GPS functionality: The built-in GPS is incredibly useful for storing your driving history, as well as for marking red-light cameras and frequently encountered speed traps. You can also mute alerts in certain areas (like near your home or office) where you know the signals aren’t threats. This further helps reduce false alerts and keeps your focus on the road. Customizable alerts and settings: The R4 comes with a range of settings you can tailor to your driving style. Whether you prefer quieter alerts, different volume levels, or specific radar sensitivity, this detector allows you to fine-tune the experience to your liking. I found the voice alerts to be especially useful as they allow me to keep my eyes on the road while staying informed of any nearby threats. Cons: Learning curve for settings: While the customization options are great, they can be a bit overwhelming for new users. The menu isn’t the most intuitive, so you might need to spend some time with the manual to fully understand and utilize all the features. Once you get used to it, though, the customization becomes a huge advantage. Tips for Use: Mount the detector high on your windshield: For the best range and detection performance, place the detector high on your windshield, just below the rearview mirror. This helps the R4 capture radar and laser signals from farther distances. Regularly update the firmware: Make sure to keep the firmware updated through UNIDEN’s website. The updates improve the filtering, GPS database, and overall performance, keeping your detector current with the latest threats. Customize the settings for local laws: Depending on your area, you may want to adjust the radar bands or sensitivity settings to align with local enforcement methods. This helps ensure you’re only getting the alerts that matter most. Overall Experience: The UNIDEN R4 Extreme Long-Range Laser/Radar Detector has been an absolute game-changer for me. It offers fantastic long-range detection, and its accuracy and advanced filtering system ensure you’re alerted to real threats, not just random signals. The GPS functionality and customizable settings are invaluable, allowing me to personalize my driving experience and further cut down on false alarms. It’s especially helpful for anyone who regularly drives on highways or in areas with heavy law enforcement presence. Though it’s a bit of an investment, the performance and peace of mind make it well worth the cost.

Bought this for my wife a few years ago for Christmas and she loves it. As far as I know the accuracy is great and it lets her know when to watch her speed(lol). Still working great after 3-4 yrs so this thing is definitely good quality and built well!

Necessary for drivers who use the fast lane properly. Alerts well within 1 mile at most times and I’ve seen well over 2-3 miles on open highways with minimal surroundings. Having arrows would be nicer but you have an R8 range for $400 which is half the price just for no arrows from what I’m seeing. I picked mine for $299 on sale.

Good long range 360 degrees radar detector . Even worked while on a winding mountain side road. Great product. Saved me many time from speeding tickets.

I tried several detectors, even much more expensive ones. The R4 is my choice. It’s small and good looking, upgraded tech has great range and filters out the garbage signals automatically or manually and is especially good blocking aggravating trash signals coming for other cars. And when it does get a legit threat it’s on it a mile away. Other detectors have arrows, and that would be nice, but those can give off confusing signals. With the R4 range you soon get where you can tell by the signal pattern if the threat is in front, rear, or to the sides, (and the threat sounds are just cool.) This little baby is solid, huge memory for storing mutes, will itself recognize and store a false threat location after a few passes, will pretty much be quiet as a mouse until approaching a real threat. At that point the direction is not as relevant as slowing down anyway. I live in a section that uses Ks and Kas, didn’t know this till R4 educated me, so I can’t turn off the K band, but my R4 will not sound a signal from another car like I found that others do. I don’t speed much but I will get liberal with the speed limit sometimes, and that has cost me hundreds in the past With the R4 you really feel like you have and R2D2 on your side.
