I didn’t think she could be equal to ODW but oh my goodness I hung onto every page. This is so refreshing and magical and so different from anything else out there.The magic system. The heroine. The found family. I love that her books are spicy without being porn. Like the most beautifully written sex scenes that compliment the story, but aren’t the story themselves.Rachel Gillig was in my top five but this has cemented her as my number 1. I hope the second is as gorgeous and as full of depth and emotion as her others. Obsessed.

I don’t even know where to begin to compose my thoughts into a coherent review. This was my first Rachel Gillig and it was BEAUTIFUL. Her writing and storytelling is unlike anything I’ve ever read. I felt like I lived this book through Six’s shroud covered eyes. We were all Six. We saw, felt and experienced everything she did. I need Rory to exist in real life. I need my own walking talking gargoyle. I NEED book 2 like my lungs need air after that ending. This book is making me YEARN y’all.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I laughed, I cried, I laughed a lot more and then the ending…The ending broke my heart…. Read this book.

This book was exquisite!!!! Rachel Gillig builds the best worlds. They are so unique and the magic so interesting. There are layers of mystery you unravel in her books. The prose is beautiful written. The characters grip you and make you either fall in love with them or utterly hate them. The FMC is loving and selfless. She’s also fearless and ferocious. I cannot wait to see how this story ends.

This book. Holy crap the twists and turns got me. I absolutely loved the gargoyle side kick. I loved the enemies to lovers story of six and Rory. I could not put this book down! Ends on a cliff hanger and I cannot wait to have the next book in my hands. Hands down one of my favorite fantasy books of the year. It may have started slow but the pick up. Amazing

I am just floored at how wonderful the writing is in this book. It’s so lovely and poetic! Once again Rachel Gillig has gifted us with a beautiful, gothic world steeped in a very unique and slightly grotesque magic system. I have so many highlights in this book and I’m already chomping at the bit for the next one!!

This was unique and extremely well written. It made me laugh, made me sad, gave me hope. The story had love and loss. And as any well written story is, the feelings it leaves linger. I cannot wait for book 2.

My Thoughts: Wow this book surprised me in the best ways and I really enjoyed it! I love Rachel's writing because it draws you in in the sneakiest ways and you find you haven't put the book down in a while. This was a slooooow burn for me because of all the world-building that needed to occur throughout. But I will say when it grabbed ahold of me, I struggled to put the book down. Six is such a strong character, especially with how sheltered her life from the outside world had been. The banter she shared with Rory was top-notch and had me giggling several times. I love their natural progression from enemies to friends to more. Maude was the mother Six never had and I loved their relationship with one another because it came at a time when they both needed it.Finally, I DID NOT think I could love a gargoyle side character as much as I now do, but here we are. The gargoyle stole the show for me pretty much from the beginning and brought light to the darkest moments.
