A great magnifier.
I can't recommend this magnifier light highly enough. The daylight ring light gives shadow free, colour balanced, even illumination. The 12 cm. lens gives an undistorted view of the workpiece from a distance that allows working with a standard size brush. The supporting spring arms are of true angle poise design (many are not) allowing the widest range of positioning for the light head, which remains balanced & parallel to the work surface. The clamp is heavy duty & metal (many are not) it remains firm & does not slip off (many do). This lamp is a true workhorse & well worth the extra bit of money. Don't make the mistake I did & go for the cheaper versions, this one is the best!

excellent work or hobby light.
i bought this light as a replacement for a led light bought from amazon that had to go back faulty.i decided to upgrade and go not just for a light but a magnifier light.it arrived after 5 days and was extremely well packed and plugged straight in working immediately.only the base was actually seperate from the lamp and this just pushed together very easily.i can get it to stay in virtually any position i want and if it does start to move it is just a question of tightening the little wing nut type things (one on the light and one on the "elbow") and it stays put. a nice firm on/off switch on the light unit itself and it also has a handy dust cover. a very usable piece of kit, i use mainly for my hobby of model making but when not in use it folds and swings out of the way. also used it for repairing the wifes glassesand for getting out a nasty splinter.totally recommended.

Good design let down by a few loose bits which shouldnt be like that
Within half an hour of using this, a key nut fell off which fortunately I found. This was not a cheap product but someone over economised by not putting locknuts on the joints which would have cost a few pence to implement. The magnifier is good though suffers, as they all do, from distortion at the edges of the lens. Takes a bit of time to get used to but lighting is very even and bright without glaring. Adjustment mechanism works but occasionally seems only just adequate for task of holding heavy lamp head in place. Again a bit more metal and bearing area on the joints would have made a better product. If you are going to constantly fiddle and move this around, spend a lot more but if its geting occasional movement, its fine. Having the on-off switch on the lamp head itself is good, its just the weight of the bulbs transformer and associated gear that makes the head a little heavy for the arm Note that the best magnification is by having the lens around 200mm from the item your working on. This means using heavy tools such as soldering irons is a bit restrictive but not too bad. If you need a wide field of view, go elsewhere, but if the item you need to see is about the size of a coffee coaster, you should be fine It might be lecturing but seriously watch out for the lens near sunlight. That flap thing on top is to block sunlight as the lens and focal distance would very easily set fire to items under it on a sunny day in the right conditions. Use the flap! I noticed that this product was being sold for considerably more on online craft sites, sometimes double the price.

Excellent product
I thought long and hard about buying one of these lights. I do a lot of sewing, but as my eyes are failing I am finding it increasingly more difficult to unpick stitches from any sewing alterations I do. I researched a great deal of different makes, each having different reviews, some good, some not so good. What I did find confusing was the how I could relate as to the magnification x in relation to the diopter. This has a given diopter of 5 which is just perfect for me. I clicked on Maplins website and all was explained. This has a diopter of 5 which is just perfect for me. So I went ahead and bought one. It arrived a lot faster than the given expected date. It's a good solid light it has the exact right amount of magnification for my needs. It will also be very useful for anyone who does health and beauty, and also craft work.. So now I have all I need. I can throw away the magnifier I purchased that you hang around your neck, which for my needs was an absolute waste of money.

Good product let down by poor design issue
Very good and solid clamp, angle poise mechanism is fine, very easy to adjust. The light is bright and clear, can work well under it and the magnification is perfect for my needs. The bulb does radiate some heat which I was not expecting after using LED lamps and probably should have. The lens cover is very badly designed, the hinge is next to useless, it doesn't locate properly and it often just falls off... really spoils an otherwise good product. Have yet to research cost and avilability of a replacement bulb, that might make or break it for some.

If it stayed in position it would be very good. Avoid as its a waste of money if ...
The light won't stay at the desired height. It falls down under its own weight. The pivots in the adjusting arm simply are not stiff enough to keep the light where you want it. If it stayed in position it would be very good. Avoid as its a waste of money if you want more than two positions to keep it in

Great....does the job!
Bought this to replace my ancient one. Very please with it. Used for sewing, craft etc. Easy to adjust but firm enough not to wobble about. The table clamp is nice and neat and sits close to the table without jutting out too far. Lamp give a good light and the magnifier is perfect for detailed work. I give it five stars. Good price too!

Fabulous Fluorescent Flexible Magnifying Lamp
*** HIGHLY RECOMMEND *** This magnifying lamp is fabulous. I received it as a gift last Christmas (I'd asked for it) and couldn't be more delighted. It emits a strong, even light that clearly illuminates the piece being worked on, and the magnification is excellent for real close-up detail. I use it to work on silver jewellery and for detailed areas on paintings/designs. Each joint can be tightened or relaxed so the lamp can be positioned as desired. A small moulded socket attaches to the table top, and the moveable arm of the lamp fits snugly into it.
