A Satisfied Customer
10/30/22 Update I still have this aquarium and it is doing well. The lights in the hood did fail about 6 months ago. I upgraded to an LED light bar that is better for planted tanks. I replaced the hoods with some clear acrylic. I may change the hoods to real glass at some point because the clear plastic has warped. You can run it without a hood, but you may have to top off the tank occasionally due to evaporation and you might risk having a fish jump to its death. The original heater and filter are still operating. I replaced the Tetra filter media with large blocks of filter sponge and I clean it out monthly. I would still recommend this aquarium for anyone new to the hobby. The tank and filter are both high-quality pieces and will be serviceable for many years. Original October 2019 Review When I first saw that this aquarium kit was going to travel over 1500 miles by ground to my house, I was worried that I would be getting a box full of broken glass. My worries were for nothing because the aquarium arrived intact and had all of listed components inside the box. Basically you'll have about 90% of what you need to get an aquarium up and running with this kit. The tank is USA made with 3/16" tempered glass. The 55 gallon size gives you a lot of space to be creative and it is easier to maintain water quality with the larger volume. It has a hood with integrated LED lighting. The filter is the well known Tetra Whisper 60 that really is whisper quiet. Disregard the videos that show the filter operating with a loud chattering noise. These were made by morons who didn't prime the pump or had the impeller installed incorrectly before turning it on. The filter wells are nice and deep and you can ditch the replaceable cartridges for any type of reusable media (sponge, filter floss, bio-rings, rock, etc.). It's also easy to clean and has only one moving part (two if you count the flow control knob). The heater was a no-name 200W UL certified. It has been working just fine and maintaining temp. for the last two months. The kit also comes with several packs of plastic and silk plants, water conditioner, a stick-on thermometer, a net, and food to get you started. The only things you'll need to add to get it up and running are substrate, water, and fish. If this is your first aquarium, I would also recommend getting a bottle of bacteria starter culture, some extra water conditioner, a gravel vac, and a water test kit. This would make a great gift for anyone wanting to get into the hobby. Happy fish keeping!

Lighting
Aquarium is nice however the lights are less than desirable. We have had our tank up about 1 month and lights are already dimming and blinking at us.

Beautiful tank!
We’ve been very pleased with our tank going on 4 years! I know it took a while to write a review, lol. It’s very well built and a strong tank. It’s held up to a toddler throwing small toys at it which I don’t recommend. The seals are strong and as you can see we added a second Filter. The tank has some algae at the moment but water levels are top notch! The fish are happy and have lots of space to swim. I will have you know that the lights did fail not long after purchase so we purchased color changing led’s and we couldn’t be happier. We have it on an Ikea console table which we reinforced by adding more legs but I don’t recommend that either. We’ll be looking for another solution soon due to safety issues with my toddler grandchild. The console is not secured to the wall so we plan on finding a proper stand for it. VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure you place it on a strong base!!! Overall I have to say that our family is very pleased with the tank. If you’re on the fence, get it! But I will say that the price point right now is very high. We purchased it in the $200ish price range and felt it was a good deal. Now it’s almost $400 so hold off and wait for a good deal to pop up. I Highly recommend this 55 gallon Tetra tank!

Great price for the kit
Great kit for the price. I was a little worried when I receive the package everything came in because the box looked like it had been through a war and back but to my surprise everything was perfectly fine Inside. I heard some people claim that he water pump had a high pitch noise but I just followed the instructions and it's working fine and is pretty quiet. The lighting is actually nice and bright and the kit pretty much included everything you need to get started except for some gravel/sand. The only thing I could be picky about is that in my opinion some of the fake plants included seemed kinda cheap and ugly but It didn't matter for me much since I'm using mostly real plants with a couple fake ones mixed in. Overall im really happy and think it will make a good home for my new fish when I get them.

good value
the tank came very well packaged. absolutely secure and well padded. i was able to unpack and setup the tank by my self in a couple of ours. I wish the LED's were brighter. oh and the dual set of LED's started flashing off and on. I simply used a larger wall wart to end the problem. evidently the included power supply just can't supply the needed current to drive two sets of LED's. shame on them for not knowing ohm's law. it is not a show stopper cause I'm going to replace the lids with glass and add my own light to the tank.

Junk
The aquarium seemed fine and worked OK for two years. Then, FOUR DAYS AFTER PRODUCT SUPPORT ENDED, it sprang a leak. Not a simple dribble, but as if someone turned on a faucet spigot. Thanks a lot for soaking our wood floors and leaking through to the basement ceiling below. If we hadn't been home, our discus fish would have all been dead. There was nothing that precipitated this disaster, such as an earthquake, trucks rumbling by, something falling on the tank - NOTHING. I highly recommend avoiding this tank at all costs.
