Brainometry Cubed

My students have a lot of fun with these. I wish there were more patterns from the book though.

We like puzzles in our house, but unfortunately, our house is also a little chaotic. The flaw in this cube is there's no storage system, like a cover over the box. So when one of cubes went missing, it has made the whole thing unusable. Prior to that, it was a fun brain teaser and kept everyone occupied.

"I" thought this Learning Resources Brainometry Cubed, 3D Puzzle, Fidget Toys, Puzzles, Sensory Toys, Fidget Cube, Brain Games, Math Manipulatives, STEM Kits, Montessori, Easter Basket Stuffers for Kids would be a fun learning toy for my niece and/or nephew, but neither of them (ages 6 and 3) have any interest. This has just sat through several visits, though I've brought it out each time, so I'm donating it. But in my opinion, it's easy to use, there are no real directions but it's clear the goal is to repeat the images from the booklet. I could see kids between the ages of 3-7 enjoying this. It's almost like a Rubik's cube but only the rows move.

I loved this item! Honestly, I got it for my nephew and he did enjoy it when we played together with it but he lost interest quickly. My sister said it ended up in the toy bin, however, I still think it is a great learning tool. My niece liked it too and she's a teenager. Kids have so many electronics nowadays it's hard to compete with video games.

If you have (or are buying for) a child in the age-range of 4-8 years, maybe a bit higher or lower, depending on the child, then get this Learning Resources Brainometry Cube! Recognizing and replicating patterns is key for the development of intellect, and this pattern cube item accomplishes that goal very efficiently and with only a few pieces (so less likely that the kids will strew the pieces all over the house, thus creating a mess and impeding the function of the learning tool). I remember being in kindergarten, doing an exercise as to replicating patterns, whereby the teacher had drawn vertical lines on multiple cards, and the children were to replicate the pattern using painted sticks. The reason I remember this is that my brain really clicked "on" while doing the pattern exercise one day, and I replicated the pattern over and over all the way down the table, thereby fast-tracking myself into more advanced activities for me only, and into the gifted program once I started grade school. The pattern exercise was life-changing for me, and I wanted something similar for my kids, but I do not have the time to create my own pattern cards or to find and paint a bucket-full of sticks. Also, I do not want any toy or activity item that involves 100+ items in my house, because we all know what happens to things like that, right? So, I have been on the lookout for a toy / activity item that is pre-made, replicates the kindergarten pattern exercise, and involves only a few pieces. But, how would that be possible? Wouldn't any such item require 100+ pieces in order to do what I wanted it to do for the kids' brains? I thought so, and I never had any luck finding something that ticks all of my boxes, until I came across this Learning Resources Brainometry Cube. Brilliant!!!!!! Loved trying these cube/puzzles out. It was pretty easy to get the hang of them.

I am disappointed in these. I thought that they actually would be a brain teaser or a fidget. They aren't at all. It's just a cube that rotates in one direction. There's no puzzle to solve and they don't spin smoothly. I guess if you're going to actually use the pattern cards and try and match the patterns then this would have value, but it is not a brain teaser and it is not a good fidget. I would not buy this again
