Pods are mostly edible, but even fresh they are HARD and DRY. Desert survival food and ancient aphrodisiac. I sold commercial roasted/toasted carob powder for decades at my Natural Food Store (Sequoia Family Market) and it remains a popular and nutritional substitute for commercial chocolate.
