Well worth the money!
I've long wanted a wind-up metronome, and decided to splurge on this. The childhood one I had been given by my grandmother has long since disappeared from my life. Of course digital metronomes are everywhere, and of course I use them regularly. I've been itching for a return to a non-digital metronome and finally took the splurge. I love this metronome. For me, seeing the mechanical back and forth of the beat imports a feeling of spaciousness within measures that my music needed. It's like seeing a conductor visually conduct. Having not used one for a while, I had to remember to wind it well before my sessions. I've found it incredibly relaxing to practice to as well, and people who overhear me practice to it have said the same thing! Something abut the strong beat when you play on the beat is soothing. It has one sound: fairly loud. I like it, but it at first was jarring, and I wondered if I would like it. Turns out, I do. Anyone who plays with a metronome knows it takes a while to "hear" the metronome -- this one makes that easy! It's a work of art, and a reminder of things that were built not just to last, but also for aesthetic beauty. I expect to play for a long while yet, and expect this to go the distance and someday be passed down to my niece, another pianist in our family. I am a piano teacher AND a piano student. I highly recommend you take the plunge, if you're considering buying one. I've loved it and I believe it's made me a better pianist already, because it's enjoyable to practice with. Hardly a day goes by when I practice piano when I don't use this beautiful metronome.

Excellent Metronome!
I looked high and low trying to find a good quality, wood metronome that reminded me of the one I used growing up. This very much looks like the one I used to have so I had to buy it. I am very pleased. It is very well made & the sound is awesome - just like the sound I remember from so long ago. No plastic or electronic metronomes for me! Super fast shipping and excellent packaging!

It stains. I absolutely do NOT recommend.
Took this out of the box to use it for the first time. Was somewhat disappointed; paled in comparison to the one we had in the house when I was a kid, but nicer than a digital metronome. Then I placed it on my bookshelf and noticed black on my hands. I picked it up... black on my shelf. I took a damp cloth to wipe it down... it ruined the cloth. I spent 15 mins rubbing. It just turned cloth after cloth black, as well as my hands. What an incredible disaster of a product. A complete waste of money and ruiner of my daily cleaning cloths. A terrible waste of money.
