Hungarian Nut Roll - Poppyseed (Over 1.5 lbs)

I am of Polish background, and have had Makowiec (Polish poppy seed roll) all my life. My boyfriend is Hungarian, and he told me Hungarians also enjoy poppy seed roll, so I have been happily making him the Polish version (not knowing there was any difference) for birthdays, anniversaries and Christmases the past 15 years we've been together. He and I happily scarfed down each poppy seed roll I've made. Along comes 2020, and with the virus pandemic, the European stores I normally frequent to buy my poppy seed filling were closed. The filling was also unavailable on Amazon. My boyfriend's birthday was coming up. Oh lord, what to do? I saw that Barbara's Hand Made Cookie & Pies offered the full poppy seed roll, (rather than just the filling) so I ordered 2 of them (one for him to bring to work, and one for us to nibble on at home). They arrived quickly and wrapped well in wax paper to keep them fresh. However, the dough was much thinner than I was used to. Polish makowiec has a thicker, lighter, puffier dough crust, these were thin like fig newton dough. But his birthday was the next day; I didn't have much choice and presented them to my boyfriend. He. Was. THRILLED! Turns out, this is how they make poppy seed roll in Hungary! Of course, he always liked what I made him, and he NEVER told me it was different than the Hungarian version, so I just plugged along every year, making the version I thought was correct. (He is such a dear for not telling me, and I never knew!!!) The rolls themselves were delicious. The dough wasn't too sweet, the poppy seed filling was wonderful. Not too sweet, not too gritty. I would happily reorder from this merchant. it was a very good product, was delivered quickly and made my boyfriend nostalgic for home.

Good coffee cake. I would like it more if it was less sweet.

Obviously made by real human hands. Very moist, poppyseed galore. Pricey, but worth it.
