Q: Will mice die if they fall in the bucket without water,would like to use it in winter and the water will freeze.

I guess you could mix half water and half antifreeze, just like your car. That would keep the water liquid to about 20 below.

Q: Why are customers putting water in the bucket?

to drown the rodents, 3in. of water works great

Q: Will this work with Chipmonks? Are they attracted to peanut butter too?

The magnet and counterweight is primarily designed for mice ( average weight 0.7- 0.8 oz). However, I have had luck catching smaller rat, since the screw is adjustable. I would think chipmunks(2-3 oz) would just be able to reach the bait without reaching the end of the trap. You would have to extend the plank and adjust the screw, as to be able to slide 2.5oz object( chipmunk avg. weight) to the edge.
