The Complete Manual of Things That Might Kill You: A Guide to Self-Diagnosis for Hypochondriacs Review: Gift for Grandson - My grandson found this book on desertcart that he thought he may enjoy reading. I bought "used" because books are really expensive. The "used" book came in very good condition. Shipping was really fast. As for the content in the book, it is very interesting to read. It has ailments and diseases that you wouldn't even think about. I certainly wouldn't use the book for professional medical advice but it is kind of fun, humorous reading. Review: Great for a gift to a hypochondriac - Gave this to my hypochondriac friend for her birthday and she was crying of laughter. She says it actually comes in handy as well. Great blend of funny and functional

Bought as a gag gift
Purchased this book for my hypochondriac sister, and man, is it thorough. She didn't seem as amused, but I guarantee she reads this thing every time she has a cough.

Recommend for any hypochondriac
As a current germaphobe, hypochondriac I thoroughly enjoy this book. I like the setup of diseases and how its categorized. It's also slightly humorous so it helps to calm down anxiety from hypochondria. Fun book to read or to do research rather then googling.

If you read this book, you are still alive, Embrace life.
Must be incomplete book, because I am still alive. This for the worry wart who has too much time on hands. But entertaining, particularly when doing diagnosis on another and to trigger the hypochondriac.

One major problem
I am a medical doctor. I bought this book because it looked amusing and I get to deal with hypochondria on a daily basis. Hypochondriacs may have generalized anxiety disorder, OCD or major depression and these disorders should be treated. Hypochondria interferes with diagnosis and treatment of serious medical disease and is a financial burden. Studies of medical doctor's self diagnosis showed that they perform worse than a second medical doctor because they lack objectivity. Self diagnosis is discouraged even in medical doctors. This is the major problem with this book.

Nice reference (and a great gift)
Bought this as a gift for a hypochondriac friend and it turns out to be something I might purchase for mu=yself as a reference just because of the way it's organized. If you stomach hurts, for example, you can just go to that section and find possible reasons. Very informative.

Humerous and informative
A very funny and educational book. I purchased this for my families "hypochondriac" and she got a kick out of it. Well written and contains a fair bit of info on a lot of conditions you never knew existed.

As a hypochondriac this is probably the one book I should not read, however as a masochist I couldn't resist it. What can go wrong will go wrong and this lists some of the more entertaining ways in which the body gives up. If you don't have a sense of humour then this book isn't for you as it does list some of the more improbable ways your body has of getting it's own back. It also covers some of the history of hypochodriacs and medicine in general and some of the more scary things that medics were doing to people in the name of curing them not so long ago - focal sepsis a case in point. What really amused me was the use of checklists: e.g. If you have a headache you might have.....going into a number of alternative diagnoses of what the headache may mean. I gave my brother in law a copy of the book for his birthday because within the family he is known as a pathological hypochondriac and after reading it he took to his bed for a month! Great fun. I can thoroughly recommend it.

This was purchased as a gift. It was meant to be a bit of light hearted fun aimed not because the person in question is a hypochondriac but because we all are! It was well received and will no doubt be picked up and read over and over... by us all!

Talking point on the coffee table, my doctor friends thought it was hilarious, so did I. If you don't have a sense of humour then don't buy it.
