Understanding Music (7th Edition)

So I took some summer classes to get ahead a little bit and for a general education class I took a music class and it required this book. New is a pretty expensive price for the book (even though new you do get the listening guide CD's). Luckily, my teacher but the songs online for us to listen too so I went with the rental price instead (which in my state and at the time was $18) with prime 2-day shipping. Shipping was great as usual (I mean it is amazon!!!). Packaging was great too!! However I should not that the RENTAL does NOT come with the listening guide CD's. Those only come with the new copy of the book.The book itself is great! I love music and although it isn't my field of study/major it gives a good and rich history of not only the origins of all kinds of music but also a great explanation of the basics from the fundamentals of music to learning too read sheet music. Tells of many great musicians and the vocab is very easy to follow and the subjects are organized in specific and easy to follow manner. Overall great book!!! Whether you need it for a class or just wanna learn about music, the history, and some of the greatest musicians of all time I would for sure pick this up!

I bought this a few months ago for a class I'm taking and what can I say, it's doing its job haha. It was pretty difficult for me to find this book at a reasonable price so I was happy to find it on Amazon. Unfortunately this does NOT come with the CD's and I'm not really sure where to get them. I don't absolutely need them though considering I'm doing fine with the book alone. Just a heads up though.

I was surprised when I got the book that it was it good condition which is rare when you order used textbooks online but this one turned out great. No marks, pages missing or tears in the entire book!

I wasn't expecting a book that looked like it got wet and dried up again. The pages are wrinkled and old. This is, however, a rental so I will take care of it as much as I can and hope it doesn't fall apart before I have to return it.

Good for my son

This book is more like the history of music. The material is not really interesting to me and hard to understand if you have not had any knowledge about music. Even though I do have, it is still boring. Don't buy it/Take this class, unless you have to.

I didn't receive the 4 cds thats suppost to come with the book, so i couldn't participate as weell in class.

My piano teacher recommended I buy this book to aid my understanding of the composers and the culture of their day. I only wish my copy included the music CDs.

it did not come with a CD or code >:( don't buy this. it dose not give you what it says it dose.
