The Phantom: The Complete Newspaper Dailies Volume 3 Review: For those who came in late - Finally, the third volume of the complete Phantom Saga has come out. Production values are outstanding, great glossy paper, sharp whites, backs and grays. Ray Moore at his peak of illustration. While the stories are good or excellent, I would rate only one story as absolutely outstanding-- the Game of Alvar-. Suspenseful, cinematic, starting on a low key-- the Phantom and Diana taking a leisurely and romantic stroll on a deserted pier and being confronted by 2 thugs, then building up to gun-smuggling intrigue, political corruption, the near death of the Phantom rescued by a gun-toting Diana, leading to our hero's dramatic comeback and Alvar's utterly devastating demise. The other stories are all very entertaining but not as outstanding. The "Golden Circle" story was quite good with many of the themes later reprised on a grander scale in the Sunday 1943 "Return of the Sky band," girl gang, the leaders compromising their gang allegiance by falling in love with the Phantom and seeking to aid his escape, etc. Not as good as the more elaborate and epic Sunday story but still a very good story. "The shark's nest" has some very good action segments, with Diana again playing a significant role. "The mysterious girl" is perhaps the weakest, due to some lapses in logic. The mysterious girl, for example has lost her memory due to a traumatic incident. She register in a hotel under an assumed name and her "guardian" comes looking for her under the assumed name! All in all, still an excellent volume. Now that 3 volumes of daily strips have been produced, it would be the right time for Hermes to issue the first volume of Sunday newspaper strips! In 2011, please. Review: The Story Continues... - I have been itching to get my hands onto this masterpiece of a collection. Hermes Press has done complete and true justice to the legend of The Ghost Who Walks and has swept the categories in style. The quality of reproduction, the layout and the ease of reading through this definitive chronological collection, makes me, a third generation Phantom fan, want to collect all the editions that Hermes has to offer. Hermes also offers superlative reproductions of other Phantom comics, which are a definite addition to the entire run of the series. Behind Every Good Man is a Woman, Often With a Gun.
In this third collection, our hero is rescued by the extremely formidable Diana Palmer, the only true match for our hero. Olympic Swimmer, Martial Artist, Future U.N. worker, she is the Phantom's equal. This collection demonstrates just what kind of woman our hero needs! But that's not to say we don't see a lot of the Ghost Who Walks! Quite the opposite. This is a great collection that features a hero and heroine that the readers can aspire to, without any of the personal conflicts or hangups of their modern counterparts. These folks are brave, courageous, honest, and having a ball doing their hero bit! Worth the price at ANY price, this collection is what your bookshelf is missing!

The Phantom Dailies #3
This continuation from Volumes 1 and 2 continues the masterful work of writer Lee Falk and artist Ray Moore in another series of adventures. The Phantom was a great strip that too few today have been able to read in any continuity.....this, and the previous two volumes, allow one to do just that. You are in for a treat!
