Fantastic and entertaining guide to being a gentleman
I bought three copies of this title - one for me and one for each of my two sons. There is a huge war on boys in American public schools and popular culture and this book was a gift to show that being a MAN is good, noble, and healthy. I love the tips on what to do in certain situations! The writing style is hugely entertaining, almost in a classic Sherlock Holmes or post-Victorian style which makes the book even more fun. It's an entertaining read but the lessons are practical, as well. Being a gentleman is good and how to be a gentleman is a fantastic way to live. This book shows how and why!

The field guide to all things manly and gentlemanly!
This book is GREAT! It's well laid out, an easy read and chock full of great and useful information. And as the male of the species struggles to rediscover what it means to be a man and a gentleman, I'd add that it's full of great and timely info to boot.I only have 2 "regrets" about this book; 1) that it doesn't come in a hardbound version, and 2) that it wasn't in print when I was maybe 18-20 years old. It's an awesome reference for a man's entire life!

It's an easy read. It felt good to know I learned ...
It's an easy read. It felt good to know I learned some of these things on my own since my dad didn't really pass much of this down to me. I like the fact that you can jump around and read sections as you need them, instead of having to do a straight read for everything to make sense. This is just an introduction to gentlemanly concepts. You will spend a lifetime perfecting these skills, and you will not he a master by the end of the book, but this is a great book to give a young man on his journey to manhood which teaches practical skills with an emphasis on why it's important. I wish this had been required reading in high school. But for now at the age of 32 I feel it's a good reminder of what I need to know and even an introduction into things I have not yet experienced.Great book to make an easy step in the right direction of self-improvement.

Great book for anyone
I first got this book about five years ago from my uncle and the book definitely has taught me a lot and has shaped me to the person I am today. I definitely recommend it to anyone since everyone can learn something from the book. Since I loved this book so much I bought another copy to give it to a friend since it is a great read.

Level Up Your Manliness
You may be one of the morons saying 'you don't need a book to learn how to be a man'... Well, ask yourself the following: "would you like to improve relationships with your wife, children, parents, and co-workers?""Do I want my life to be better or stay the same?"Get this book. Great manual. Short and to the point. I would personally like to have a couple additions made to this, but it is full of great ways to change your ways from ape-like to gentleman and scholar.

Fantastic book and seller, Better World Books
I love this book. I am a fan and follower of the Art of Manliness and am enjoying reading his book. I love it so much, I am buying another one as a gift for a young graduate heading off to college. Originally I bough a used copy that was in less then perfect condition but the seller corrected the problem almost immediately after I notified them of it. Highly recommend Better World Books if you can buy from them.

Good gift for young men
My husband and I decided to get our son a book every year for his birthday. This one is too mature for him for now, but it will be fun to introduce him to aspects as he gets older. We don’t necessarily agree with everything, but it’s good to discuss different perspectives.

A must for every young gentleman from 8 to 81
My husband got this from a friend and couldn't believe all of the important pointers for every young man (and he left young in the rearview mirror a long time ago). We since ordered one for the dad's of our great-grandkids. They are homeschooled and this is a great subject for the dads to teach to their sons. There are also a lot of pointers that are helpful to the girls as well. It looks old-fashioned, but this is one that you will never be too old for.

A guide to some basic skills and attitudes that every man should master / have
The second half of the 20th century has led to a pretty drastic social revolution, which while often positive, led to certain aspects of gender roles no longer being passed down, as in the past. The book aims to redress this - when it comes to some basic skills and attitudes that define manliness from the authors' point of view. While this may sound chauvinist, it is most certainly nothing of the kind; the authors simply believe that in many cases the baby was thrown out with the bathwater and that many modern men never fully transition into adulthood, like they should. The book covers various aspects, from dress and grooming, leadership, courtship and appropriate manners in treating the opposite gender, raising children, financial independence, etc. A lot of it has to do with taking appropriate care and attention and embracing, rather than shirking one's responsibilities. The book will teach those still not so enlightened, how to tie a tie properly, how to defend oneself (or a lady's honour), how to make a fire while camping, or how to deliver a baby in an emergency, as well as a myriad of other skills. And while the reading of the book per se is unlikely to suffice, taking on the advertised attitude and practicing it, will probably lead to the desired results.Even though the book is a mixture of a how to guide and of rules the authors believe should be followed (if one wants to call oneself a man), it never comes across as overly preachy or mechanical - the language flows well and you can just as easily read it from cover to cover, as just delve into a particular subject / use it as a reference. For quite some readers lots of advice contained in the book is not (wholly) new but I would venture that every 18 year old - and many older males - would truly benefit from spending some time with the book and pondering the advice contained therein.

Great book that teaches you lots of life lessons you might have missed so far
I found reading this book incredibly enjoyable.Of course lots of the advice it gives is straightforward and just confirms what common sense already tells you to do. However, the book gives a great overview of what modern manhood entails. It also allows you to become a better man by comparing your actual behaviour in different situations to how you ideally should behave. The book might sometimes be a bit overly old fashioned and very American, but that doesn't make it any less helpful at all. I also found the fighting techniques described in the book quite entertaining - obviously you won't be able to win an unprovoked pub fight if all your preparation was reading books! All in all, the book is entertaining to read and allows you to identify and work towards eliminating potential weaknesses. A good read for any man interested in continuous self-improvement and personal development.

Checkout the website before purchasing the book
The book of the website. The website is definitely worth a look and contains much of the book's content, plus a lot more; ie podcasts, articles, videos etc.For me, the chapter on appearance, dress and health/hygiene could have been more detailed, but its a good start and influenced me to ditch my old cartridge razor in favour of a DE razor. The author is from the States so the content is not aimed at this side of the pond, but much does translate to British sensibilities.
