will this product work on metric taps?

It will, if the sizes are close, in example 5/16 and 8mm 3/8 10mm and so on.

I think so, I looked at mine and everything is stamped Hartford Connecticut. Just from using them they are really well made, and works great. Not cheap but for a mechanic it's way cheaper than a complete removal and a trip to the machine shop. I highly recommend them.
