Uses micro B connector and doesn'te flip board over
One of the problems with Arduino's usb connector is that its stiff and rigid.Being plastic coated, it often flips the board over.Sparkfun Redboard uses the usb micro b male connector that is smaller and keeps the board upright. To use the board get the https json link from Sparkfun website and put it in other boards to update the downloads. When updated, Sparkfun AVR Redboard will show up under boards menu selection.Wayne

Super easy
Lots of good starter code available and tons of documentation as well. Super easy to use and is essentially an arduino. Love it. Does exactly what I need it to do. Simple and perfect. Love it.

Worth it
Perfect for hobby use. Not aerospace quality, but doesn’t need to be.

Never installed correctly
Spent my entire Sunday trying to get this to work - never did. Worked with the Sparkfun instructions on the page for the product. First the interface reported nothing. Then getting started guide indicated FTDI drivers should be installed, although I have another Arduino Uno (the genuine article) that installs and runs with no problem. On SparkFun's website, there must be no less than 3 different sets of instructions on installed FTDI drivers, none of which seems to match FTDI's web site. That didn't work either. Spent hours trying various combinations of drivers and paths to getting said drivers.Sparkfun, which used to have reasonable technical support, has none now. They just vector you to their forums, which provide another 30 unproven suggestions similar to the 3 FTDI install procedures. And, of course, my return window is over, so i'm stuck with a $17 brick and a wasted rare day off.
