Sequel curse
Plot synopsis below. The first film, HDD, was semi unique in a lovable way. Constantly keeping you guessing and it was very enjoyable to watch; the constant re-runs and slight changes each time were hilarious. The second, HDD2U, was pretty terrible by comparison. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the start of the story, with a fairly pointless intro, riffing on the previous film. And eventually introduces Tree into the story, in the most confusing and ham fisted way. Plot exposition much.Basically a machine has created loads of different dimensions and Tree finds herself in one where her Mum is still alive (she was dead in the first one). The film should end there - shes won the lottery, she has a parent back from the dead and can go on living her life - but the film decides to really anger people off by giving tree the option of staying in one dimension with her mother - or stay in the other with her new boyfriend....Now i'm sorry, but 99.999% of the people on this god given earth would choose the dimension with your, now not deceased, mother. Who the bloody heck wouldn't?? Choosing a boyfriend over that?! He could turn out to be a bum hole in 6 months time....... Got me seriously angry - Both my parents are still alive and i'm angry that she would choose a freaking partner over seeing her parent again. The film hides behind this by saying "that wasn't my life I lived with her"Ok - here's a thought - Say to your mother, I've thumped my head and have complete amnesia from anything before this day. But I know you are my mother and lets catch up........ "she doesn't know me" - So freaking what, you get a second chance at spending time with your mother.. Honestly did my head in.Fairly poor over all, some good laughs but 2/5

A fun yet fan dividing sequel
As it manages to serve up a great sequel, Happy Death Day 2U understandbly divides fans as it steps more towards scifi comedy and away from a slasher movie with comedy elements. The cast is solid, Tree is a still a great character that gets further developed here, and its shot well & looks great. My only complaints about the movie is a certain "French" scene that hams it up way too much and feels like its pulled straight from a Nikelodeon show. The same can be said about the post credits scene no spoilers here but it looks like we could be focusing more on other characters in a third movie, which could be a major mistake. I guess time will tell.

Unexpected twist, but was overall an enjoyable film.
I cannot comment much on the content of the film without spoiling what occurs. If comedy horror films are your thing then you will enjoy this film. Again Jessica Rothe did a fantastic job, taking the film that bit further with her brilliant acting. I enjoyed the first one a lot. The second did not disappoint and I found myself laughing all the way through. My hat goes off to the director, Christopher Landon for director two enjoyable films.Of course this is a subjective view. I may like it but you may not. All I can say is that I enjoyed it and I would recommend it if you enjoy fun not to be taken seriously comedy horrors.

Better than the first!
If you read my review for the first film you will see how much I hated it! It was a super cliched mess of a film trying to be hip in the modern way and falling flat on it's face. Anyone who's seen a lot of horror and comedy shouldn't like it.I only watched the follow up because everyone kept telling me it was a different direction and nothing like the first so I went into it expecting nothing! I was very pleasantly surprised! So the story of Tree is pretty much resolved (unless you watch the deleted ending which I think was better than the theatrical ending) so she can get on with her life..... But along comes Ryan with an interesting story to tell, one which is far too familiar to Tree! The film switches gears pretty fast to a Sci-Fi film over a horror/comedy which I think was the right idea. Okay, there's a subplot which you could argue isn't resolved, but I'm fine with it because this really isn't a smart film. The acting is not the best but then it feels more like the director was more interested in being pals with the cast so he didn't push them too much. No bad thing within the genre. As for the Blu-ray. The special features are pretty rubbish. Just the basics to fill the disc.

Hmm
I don't think this is a film that you can go into having not seen the first. Although if you have seen the first I wouldn't go into this thinking this is a 'horror' film, unlike the first. It has some good ideas but I think it could have been done a lot better, at points it does become a little incoherent. The first film wasn't brilliant but a decent enough film to kill a couple of hours, kinda, Groundhog Day meets Scream. This one is a bit like Groundhog Day meets Back to The Future meets Beaches.I'd wait for it to become free to stream on Prime or Netfilix to be honest and give three quid to a cat sanctuary or something.

Exceptional
The first film was a great comedy. Follow up films rarely deliver, at best they are sort of fine. But this film is simply so much better than the first. As with the first it's a great comedy, but this time round it is also a great drama. Both elements are well mixed.I found it really interesting how they developed the story: a lot of thought was put into the plot line. It's not simply a case of `I know let cash in on a successful film, and produce any old rubbish'. Fans of the first will not be disappointed. While I suppose it can be seen as a stand alone film, I would recommend watching the first film before this one.

It’s a sequel but it Still Funny
This was ok as a sequel, it found a way to keep the original cast but tell an ongoing story. There were some issues, like the head of science just kept ruining their experiment because he was the head of science. If you were that desperate, you would knock the guy out and get the experiment done, or twig him in from the start of each day you’re repeating the experiment. Regardless I think it has a good end, and shouldn’t need a sequel, even if that’s what the mid credits scene was trying to set up.
