The X-10 Transceiver Module - Model RR501 offers increased sensitivity, a built-in 2-pin polarized appliance module, and user-selectable options, making it the perfect addition to any X10 wireless remote control system.

Good for what they were designed for.
These provide a simple stand alone remote control. Will NOT interface directly with any of the any of modern voice controled smart systems. These are early 1980's technology. I used this system in our house back then with a programable controler. For what they were designed for this works great. I use mine in my pole barn to control some lights with the small pocket wireless control, because it allows me to control the lights from the lawn mower or tractor when entering or leaving the large doors.

Works as well as the last one
Our prior RR501 died after 15+ years, so I ordered an identical replacement after looking at reviews of newer X10 transceivers. It works okay with a wireless motion sensor and a remote, but sometimes a wireless transmission doesn't succeed -- not sure if the fault is the RR501 or the other unit. Better design and higher transmit power would have helped. In summary, it is as good as the old unit.

WHEN ALEXA DOESN'T WORK....
In each room, I have one light in each on my X10 system. Often my Echo Dots get lost with all the wifi in my building so when I can't turn on my ligts, the X10 systwem works

Everything is back to normal
I have multiple X-10 units acquired over the last 20 or so years. Wall switches, lamp modules, appliance modules, controllers and bridges. Including the RR501's which have all failed after providing 10-15 years of service. I tried the TM751's but they do not have the whole house coverage like the RR501. My Credit Card remotes ( RF ) and wall switches ( RF ) did not function with the TM751.Everything works fine with the RR501. It might not be the most up-to-date system, but it now does just what I need.I hope this unit lasts 10-15 years. I will probably get another one.

X10 Tranceivers Good for Difficult Signal Areas
I've been using X10 for over 27 years and these tranceivers work great if you need to get a radio frequency to pick up your X10 commands. Also of course you can control an item in the plug provided which I really have never needed since I'm loaded up with other X10 modules and my locations don't have use of the plug in feature. If you need to control many items via the RF these are the ticket.

Does not have as large a range as the one it was bought to replace
At the west end of my house, I have a motion sensor under my wife's bed. She has dementia and it alerts me when she gets out of bed. At the east end of the house I have a motion sensor that is outside, pointing at the house, that turns the outside lights on, if someone approaches the house. The old RR501 could handle that range, this new one, plugged in at the same location as the old one, does not get signals from both motion sensors.

Multiple defective units
Used this same model for over 30 years and it worked wonderfully. Finally burned out. Ordered a new one from Amazon. Transceiver worked fine but the relay for the included outlet clicked but would not turn off the lamp plugged into it. Same result from a wireless remote control, from the wired control unit, or from the push button on the RR501. Tried incandescent, CFL and LED bulbs. Still didn't turn off the lamp. Returned it to Amazon and ordered a new one. New one had the exact same problem. I really needed the transceiver so worked around the defective relay by abandoning the built in outlet and attaching the lamp to a lamp module programmed as position one. No help from the online X10 support site. If you really need the built in outlet, don't buy this one. If you can work with lamp or appliance modules instead of the built in outlet, this will work well for you.

Beats TM751
This one hasn't crapped out like the junky TM751 we bought previously that made it a couple of months then kaput! Decent range and rarely have to reboot this one. Quick ship as well.

better than the original
My previous RR501 stopped communicating over the power line [although the wireless remotes still worked to control the address 1 local outlet] and had cooked a brown spot on its front surface after about 15 years of good service. The new unit appears to not run as hot, and has a slightly better feel to the local on-off pushbutton switch. Otherwise, no differences to note. Works well!
