For years, athletic and comfort shoe engineers have been trying to create a buffer between the foot and the ground. Spira engineers have developed a solution--an energy return system that actually recycles expended energy back to the wearer. It's called WaveSpring technology and it's found inside every pair of Spira shoes. With every step, energy is stored and then dispersed back to the wearer while providing the ultimate in cushioning. Testing performed by an independent source reported that the WaveSpring has up to a 96% energy return. Running, walking and standing for long periods of time can take a toll on the body, legs and feet. Spira's patented WaveSpring technology helps by taking a great deal of the burden off of the joints. Compared to Spira, regular athletic shoes require the wearer to exert greater effort. Muscles work harder, causing fatigue and increasing the risk of injury. By absorbing a greater amount of the impact of each step, Spira shoes manage to greatly reduce this risk and increase the wearer's enjoyment for the duration of the activity. While most shoes rely on compressive foams, air or gel materials to cushion the feet, the WaveSpring is mechanical and therefore will not lose its extraordinary "new shoe" feel over time. There is no significant cushioning breakdown throughout the life of the shoe. Spira's WaveSpring technology intuitively reacts to the amount of energy and pressure a wearer exerts, and redistributes energy accordingly. Heel and forefoot spring configurations are engineered for specific activities. Experience the Spira difference and put a real spring in your step! Review: So I have terrible feat that also love to sweat constantly - So I have terrible feat that also love to sweat constantly. Spira shoes are already super-comfortable, and the extra support and breathable mesh really make my work day far more bearable. It's slightly tight in the width, or that may just be because of the mesh; when you tighten the laces, instead of snugging up the whole shoe, it only really pulls on the areas in between the mesh, so it can feel a little tight right at the lace and down from it, but still a little loose elsewhere. And there is no arch support in this, as is the case for nearly every shoe, I don't know why desertcart even asks, but I always use separate arch supports anyway. It also seems a tad loose at the heel, making it hard for the shoe to stay on firm. Even so, this shoe is about the best I have found for someone who stands all day, has bad feet that hurt a lot, and need circulation. Review: Excellent cushioing and very good support - This is a very good shoe, quite well made. I usually use Asics, because the shape fits my foot (always a major criterion among shoes), and Asics are so effective for pronation. But i wanted to obtain maximum cushioning to reduce impact -- owning to a knee issue, and so decided to try the spring-based Spira. There is a lot of volume in the Spira, and I also decided that I needed a bit more pronation support, so I replaced the footbed with Sole Softec Ultra insoles -- which you can mold to your feet. The result is very good and in all provides excellent support and impact protection.

Good support and stability
This is my second pair of Spira Men's Scorpius shoes. They are the only shoes I can find that provide the necessary cushioning and stability that I need, in a wide width. My only complaint is that the innersoles that came with the shoes didn't provide quite enough arch support, but when I replaced them with a third-party orthotic insert they were perfect. I used to have a lot of foot, knee and hip pain from walking, but these shoes have really helped me enjoy being active again. They're the only shoes I'll wear for long walks.

OKAY , BUT DIDN'T WORK FOR ME
ORDER A 9-1/2 D SIZE , USUALLY WEAR A SIZE 8 TO 9 . I PUT THEM ON AS SOON AS I GOT THEM AND THEY FIT JUST RIGHT. HAD ROOM UP FRONT AND WERE VERY COMFORTABLE. HAD TWO SPRINGS UP FRONT AND ONE IN BACK. THIS IS WHY I ONLY GAVE THEM A THREE STARS , THE FRONT SPRINGS YOU COULD FEEL ,BUT THE BACK ONE COULD NOT FEEL AT ALL. I HAVE BAD HEELS SO THESE SHOES DID NOT HELP AT ALL.

Worth the Cost
These shoes were recommended to me form a retailer over the phone when I called to inquire about another brand for work shoes. I work retail and am on my feet 8 hrs a day. I am very pleased that I took her advice. My legs and feet no longer bother me by the end of my day. I will defiantly be purchasing this style again, lite weight and because of the mesh top breathable in hot weather. Up date! After wearing for 3 weeks at work I had to replace the insoles. I had to buy a athletic style arch support insert. For the price that was paid for shoes I expected a much better insole. Once I did the replacement shoe is more comfortable for standing and walking all day.

They don't last long
These were very comfortable for walking but when I started running they pretty much disintegrated. When I buy a new pair of running shoes I'll spend less money and buy some that last.

Solid running shoe for those that need stability.
I've been wearing Spira shoes for many years now. The reason is how well they absorb the pounding. Other shoes feel they have more cushioning a softer feel. However try running in the Spiras for a week, then pull out your high end New Balance, or Asics, or Brooks and run in them for a week. Your back and knees will tell you to put the Spira's back on. Spira's in my experience seem to last. The springs don't seem to give out so the cushioning will be there long after the soles and upper mesh eventually wear out.

Shoe Squeaks After Only 5 Weeks
This is a comfortable light shoe. The reason I purchased the Scorpius was for the spring coils built into the shoe. Previously I owned Gravity Defyers which were heavier but had a great spring in the heel. Unfortunately they developed an annoying squeak on every step. Compared to the Gravity Defyers the Scorpius spring is barely noticeable. To make matters worse the Scorpius developed an annoying squeak in one shoe after only 5 weeks. Their warranty is only good for thirty days so I am stuck with this permanent squeak and spring coils that are hardly noticeable.
