Easy to install and sounds great!
5 stars as long as you use the optical input. Our TV is a 50 inch Sony with no audio out. I had a hdmi audio extractor for an old pair of TV ears. The sound was not good.Using the optical solved the problem.

Hearing it all makes a difference
These are great! We bought the two TV Ears unit so we can both hear everything much clearer or I can turn the tv volume off, so I don’t disturb anyone and still hear the program. At age 82 I was missing a lot of what was being said and now I’m not. Great purchase

Remember when you could hear the dialog? Here ya go.
Having some hearing loss, my experience with today's TVs is that they don't deliver quality sound through their tiny speaker array, nor from the rather expensive "system" I've added to make the footsteps of the Jurassic dinosaurs shake the room. And, when I turn up the volume, what I get is massive quantity, but no better quality. The dialog is still somewhat muted despite that my neighbors can now hear it plainly. So, my state of denial [of hearing loss] notwithstanding, I purchased what seemed to be the aids that got a preponderance of good, albeit mixed reviews - The TV Ears. The most positive thing about TV Ears is that I can now "hear" the dialog, be it a news or music presentation. If that is what you are looking for, and generally if you're researching these, that's likely what you want, they are great. And I gave them a 4-star rating because that is exactly what I needed. If you want more - like sound quality or comfort (ouch), you will be sorely disappointed. You can crank up the volume, manipulate the tone, but all you get is louder or lower voices with some other sound in the background. Too much or too little can be annoying and can expose a "hiss", so it takes a bit of trial and error to get it just right. They absolutely must be within range and within line-of-site of the base, so you need to be sure to set it up right in the first place. And even at that, the signal isn't always perfect, in fact it's rarely perfect with some garbling to be expected - but it works. And last, while I'm happy with them, because as noted, they do what I wanted them to do, I can't imagine sitting down for more than a program or two given they are ungodly uncomfortable, but that might simply be because of the shape of my head - humanoid.Tip to Manufacturer: That you have to be sure to "turn off" the volume knob or the unit won't recharge isn't intuitive and isn't properly explained in your instructions. When the unit is place in the base/charger, that in itself should shut it down, as it commonplace with every other friggin' device of this sort. End rant.

Made for older people = very usable
I am not elderly but I wanted to get this so my husband and I could sit in the same room while he watched something on TV that I didn't want to watch. This was my third try at getting something for this purpose (first one was an over-the-ear headset that wasn't comfortable on the couch, second was a Bluetooth device that can't stay plugged in). This product is perfect! I love that it is targeted towards older people, which means it has to be really simple to use (it is). Only caveat is that because the sound is transmitted via IR you really have to have a line of sight between the transmitter and the receiver on the headset, so you can't be lying too horizontally. But I like the IR concept because it's not finicky like Bluetooth. A great thing about it is that it comes with three different ways to hook it to your TV. The audio jacks on my TV were faulty so I used the "optical" port and it works perfectly. I got the dual headset version in case we wanted to listen together, but actually we still can, because I can set the TV audio out to "optical + speakers" and then I can listen through the speakers (or put it on mute) while he listens through the headset. Love it! Note that the manual says you can leave the headsets on the charger/docking station without worrying about the battery, which is great. This product would probably be even better for people with hearing problems because it's pretty loud -- the lowest setting was loud enough for me.

They are junk.
I purchased a double pair less than a year ago. Both have the same problem. The volume control on both headsets crackle and screech when adjusted. They are made very cheaply. They come with a five-year warranty stipulating they will replace them for 50% off if you buy another set. I don't call that a warranty. I don't want another product from them even for 50% off.
