Great product, but the description SUCKS!!!!
I had to do more research than I felt was necessary to actually figure out what I was buying and if it would work with the filter holder/filter set I bought at Wally World. So, being the nice guy that I am, I'll post it so you can make a better informed buying decision.. The 3M Filtrete 3US-PF01 is the advanced replacement filter cartridge designed to fit Filtrete Systems 3US-AS01, 3US-PS01 and Whirlpool Systems WHCF-SUF, WHCF-SUFC. This is a genuine 3M Filtrete Professional Water Filter. 54417. Replaces the old part number WHCF-SRC and WHCF-SR. The 3US-PF01 Product Specifications: Micron Rating: 0.5 Capacity: 2,000 or 6 months Flow Rate: 2.0 GPM Operating Temp: 40-100 F Operating Pressure: 25-125 psi Dimensions: 13 11/16" x 3 3/16" No Tool Required for filter change Filtrete Systems equipped with an internal shut-off valve Notice the "Micron Rating." This filter does a better job than MANY reverse osmosis systems!!! .5 micron rating is ridiculously small and will astound you with how much better your coffee, icecubes, cooking water, etc. will taste. You WILL notice a drop off in your water pressure at the sink tap when you use it. I consider that to be an engineering limitation and easy to live with. When you use the hot water you'll still have all the pressure you need. BTW, take your time when installing it. I know, if you've got a cramped under sink area it can get pretty claustrophobic under there. Well, suck it up, buttercup, and do it right the first time. Otherwise, you'll be under there SEVERAL times trying to get it right. Having an attentive helper to hand you tools, etc. will definitely be a big help for you so you won't have to slither in and out of there to get it done. Your effort will be worth it. You'll love the way your water looks and tastes. Btw, if you have REALLY bad water, I'd recommend some type of string filter before it. One of the "whole house filters" would be a good choice. (If you're concerned about your water quality, you should probably have one of those installed on your house anyways.) That way, you won't be clogging up this filter prematurely with large particles.

After 3 years, no longer using Royal Berkey and only using Filtrete
I got this filtration unit three years ago along with expensive 4-filter Royal Berky system. I did an extensive research for water filtration systems and didn't want a reverse osmosis filtration that removes naturally occurring minerals (although a few incorporate Re-Mineralization) that contribute to a good taste and health, and wastes a large portion of water to produce a fraction of drinkable water. My original plan was to double filter through Royal Berkey by using 3M Filtrete water for the purest water possible while retaining minerals. After a few months, I stopped using Royal Berkey because it required constant maintenance and Filtrete is so much more convenient and drastically improved water taste on its own with no noticeable odor from my tap. I use the filtered water for cooking, coffee/tea, drinking, pet water, aquarium, etc. The following performance data sheet info is included with the 3US-PF01 Advanced Water filter: Chlorine Taste and Odor - Avg % Reduction 97.5% Nominal Particulate Class I, ≥0.5 to < 1.0µm - Avg % Reduction 99.9% Microbial Cysts - Avg % Reduction 99.99% 3M also seems to care about their product from my recent interaction with the company. I recently replaced the 3US-PS01 filter as usual but tasted chlorine for the first time in 3 years. After a week of noticing the off-putting taste especially when used for my tea/coffee, I decided to contact 3M to report the problem. Although they never heard of such issue, they decided to send me a replacement filter and asked to send back the defective filter for evaluation. The replacement filter they sent worked immediately to remove the chlorine taste and I was able to send back the defective filter through a prepaid label. I finally decided to write this review after the experience, and I'm glad the company cares enough to investigate and improve their product consistency. One thing that you may want to consider is to install a dedicated filtered water faucet after trying it. For two years, I simply installed the system as the direction indicated on my existing kitchen faucet. The installation was very easy, but my cold water pressure got affected slightly and I felt like I was wasting filtered water whenever I was doing dishes or using warm water in my sink. Also, I always had to be careful to let the faucet water run for a bit to remove the stagnant unfiltered water in the faucet path, and just a bit of the unfiltered water was enough to ruin the taste of the drinking water. After installing a dedicated filtered water faucet that I got from Amazon (I used KES Z501C), my family can access filtered water immediately and my kitchen faucet water pressure got restored. It required extra work, but the effort was totally worth it. I suppose I'm saving my dusty Royal Berkey for the zombie days to filter local stream/rain water should the need ever arise, but I'm very happy with the inexpensive Filtrete system and never thought to research for another filtration system since use. I highly recommend you give this a try.

Back to "Well Water"
Finally great tasting water or tasteless water! I grew up drinking well water at my parent's house and always hated having to drink public water due to the chlorine taste. I recently purchased a house that does not have well water, but the water is not terrible. I really did not want the huge brita filter on the faucet. In fact I am replacing the faucet with a new single post faucet so the brita will not work on it. This was the perfect solution to have great tasteless water. I read the reviews here on Amazon and decided to go for it. Install was somewhat of a breeze and the results are great. As for the installation it really is simple, but you need to be sure you snap the tubing in correctly. Push the blue tubing into the connectors all the way and pull to make sure there snug in the connection. I found that afterwards the seal or grey piece should be pushed out just a bit when the connection is correct. If you do not have it correct it will leak immediately. Also when you are hooking up from the filter to the faucet make sure you have 2 wrenches to ensure that the connection is tight. After my little mishap with the snap in fittings (Really it was my fault anyway) the installation was a breeze. I let the water run for 7 minutes like the directions told me to do. After the 7 minutes were up I put my glass under the faucet and tried the water. Finally my public water is now like well water or at least I cannot taste the chlorine. I am very pleased so far with this unit, and in 6 months I will be buying the replacement filter. I will update if anything goes wrong with the product, but I feel that there should be no issues. Also the water pressure did not drop at all at the faucet which if you own a brita style you know how much you lose when you filter the water. I am so pleased with this product. I would like to note that the filter when filled with water is pretty heavy. Make sure you install this into studs or use a nice strong screw with either a molly or an anchor. I am very pleased with this product and would recommend to anyone who wants great tasting or tasteless water!

Good Water Filter System
I rated this as 4 stars, but I am more like 4 & a half stars. I had the small Dupont filter/faucet combo that I picked up at Lowes or Home Depot that I was happy with. The Dumpont seemed like an entry level model though, and ended up with a slow drip leaking from the filter less than half way into it's service life. Thinking that the Dupont must have came with a bad filter, I ordered a replacement that again worked as intended at first but ultimately began what this time was a faster drip from the filter. I decided to try out the Filtrete after doing some research. Upon unpacking, it was immediately evident that the Filtrete is better constructed, with heavier fittings & supply lines. Installation is fairly quick & easy but I've done a bit of plumbing work over the years so this was nothing much for me. I felt that the instructions provided were fairly thorough though. The reason for 4 stars & not 5 is because this Filtrete filter is designed to be installed to your main faucet (the Dupont came with it's own small faucet to mount beside the sink faucet). I didn't think that this would bother me, but now my cold water runs slightly slower and with & bit less pressure. I think I will pick up a side faucet for filtered water & some hardware to modify the cold water to supply the two faucetts as a work around. Otherwise, I am very happy with this Filtrete unit and how my water tastes.

Excellent product. Great design. Great tasting water.
We grew tired of the faucet-mount models from other manufactures that seem to be made of cheaper materials every time we we replace one. Besides, faucet-mount models limited our choices on faucet designs. This model installs out of the way under the sink in space that it not normally used, so we gave up none of our under-sink storage capacity to install this unit. I was paranoid and looked into buying brass parts to use in lieu of those that came with the unit, but after checking with guys who know what they're doing I was assured the parts that come with this unit are top quality. The unit comes with a brass piece for the one place where it makes sense to use brass. The design in general is very consumer-friendly. I can do some basic stuff around the home, but I am by no means a handyman, and I was able to install this model easily. Just take your time and be careful to closely follow the instructions. Make sure you press the blue tube into the connectors until it completely connects with an obvious click and is inserted all the way into the connector according to the instructions. You may have to press a bit if you're laying under the sink at an awkward angle, but just make sure you do that and you're good to go! The filter is large - several times as large ad the faucet models we have used from other manufactures in the past - which means there's a lot more filtering between when the water leaves the pipe and get comes out the faucet. I like that. And the NSF ratings for this model (I recommend the Advanced model that removes the parasitic cysts) are excellent! Best of all, the water tastes excellent! We buy cases of half litre bottled water to have on hand in the event of a water outage, which means we need to gradually drink it. I refill my bottles at the faucet over and over and put them in the fridge. I've always got a few bottles chilling the the fridge. The filter life of six months is excellent. Based on the average price for refill filters I have found it works out to around $5.00/month. That's pretty darn good.

Top notch filtered water
The product is excellent, I have bought 4 of these now, Filtrete Advanced is the BEST "flavor" of water of all water filters, but the Maximum filter is okay too. The plastic tubes are much easier to work with than the copper tubing of the more expensive reverse osmosis under-sink filters out there. And the quality of water is the same and better taste in my experience. The hardware does not leak ever and the tubes can be disconnected and reconnected easily and done so many times with no issues. You may need some adapters from your hardware store, they provide the adapters for common under sink fixture sizes, but not all sink hookups are the same size. I actually have 2 of mine adapted to fit a garden hose because I would rather make my filtered water that way since I don't have the kind of sink that has a separate spout for drinking water and I don't want to use filtered water for washing my hands and doing dishes, that's just wasteful of this expensive filter's total throughput. Tap water is perfectly good for those 2 things. I find that the flavor stays the same for more than a year (not just 6 months) for a family of 3's worth of water if you only use it for making drinking water and don't also use it to filter water for doing dishes and every time you wash your hands.

Use it properly, it should work just as advertised!
I've just finished installing it, which was very easy. We had copper pipes coming from the under sink shutoff, which is not compatible, so a quick trip to the store and a $5 flexible hose later, I finished the installation in about 15 minutes. This is only on the cold line on our wet bar, and I drink 6-8 16oz glasses a day from it, fill a 12 cup coffee pot several times a week, as well as a couple ice cube trays. The instructions tell you to run the system for 5 minutes before initial use. Take this time to properly adjust the pressure of the shutoff valve so it's EXACTLY on what can come out of the spigot. Over-pressuring the system will eventually lead to failures and possible leaks! DO NOT TURN YOUR FAUCET PAST WHERE THE FLOW PRESSURE IS MAXED OUT! So after being thoroughly fed up with failing on-faucet filters and leaking refrigerator ones (the latter of which leaked behind the fridge, went into the basement, and destroyed an antique cabinet), having this unit at our wetbar fixed all of our issues. Realize that putting this on your kitchen sink will drastically lower the lifespan of the filters. This isn't meant for washing dishes, it's meant for your drinking water, filling pots and ice cube trays, etc. UPDATE: used for over 1 year with no issues. Only JUST ordering my 2nd replacement filter, but the original is still working, although pressure is reducing gradually. Your mileage will vary depending on your local water and how often it's utilized. Our water comes out at only ~.80 according to my Zero Water's reader, so this is well worth the price to me.

Very impressed.
So, I didn't expect much for $40, but I figured that if we didn't like it, we can just toss it after 6 months and not get a replacement. The first filter that was arrived was badly damaged and appeared to be tempered with. I've never had this issue with Amazon, so I was a bit pissed. I never had to return anything, so I thought it would be a lengthy process -- new filter was at my door step the next day. Yeah, I couldn't believe it. So, installing this thing didn't take long, around 15 minutes (including measuring, drilling holes, arranging hoses). I wasn't sure if I was going to get any leaks, since some people complained about little leakage, and I was also concerned regarding water pressure due to a few reviews. I have none of the problems. No leaks, great water pressure and best of all, I could taste the difference. I can't stand the taste and smell of tap water, and after running this thing for about 10-15 minutes I smelled a glass of water - no odor, and then tasted it... I was shocked. It tasted more pure than our PUR water container that we have in the refrigerator. So, now that'll be going away and freeing up some needed room in the fridge. I can now wash vegetables, make coffee and cook with clean water! I am pleasantly surprised by this product. I hope everyone else's experience will be as good as mine (besides the first broken filter). I highly recommend this fella.
