Pleased with book AND PACKAGING!
Despite the words and pictures in this book being seemingly scattered over the pages and perhaps confusing for some if attempted without adult guidance, the book was charming. Just read it with kids first. What impressed without reservation was how this book was delivered. It took more than the usual 2 to 3 days, but arrived in a stiff well fitting cardboard envelope from the Amazon distribution center. TOO often Amazon packing invokes thin envelops or large boxes with insufficient packaging materials so that books arrive looking less than gift quality. Congratulations for doing this packaging right.

Not buying more of this series.
Book is only ok. Font was harder to read than it needed to be and the cats at times were weird/disturbing. I will not be buying any more in the series.

This is an easy, zany way to identify the elements of five basic shapes and learn to compare and contrast them!
A shape is "the form or outline of an object." They can be easy to name if you just know what you are looking for. In this book you will learn all about circles, squares, rectangles, ovals and triangles and their specific qualities. It's very easy once you've seen them, know what they are all about and have seen many examples. You will learn that "A rectangle has four sides and four corners" and that "The corners are right angles." But, when those wacky cats and monkey get out their rulers, smile, wave and really show you what a rectangle is all about, you're going to SNAP! ... understand what one is in a minute and have a smile wider than a monkey's!"If two side were smallerand the other two taller,a rectangle is what you'd call it.It's the shape of this doorway, this postcard from Norway, this screen, and a check and this wallet.Like a square, only wider, this billboard for cideris rectangularin its shape.Like a square, only taller,so is the wall orthe frame for this finepainted ape."For some children the ability to learn basic geometric shapes can be very difficult. This type of book is a real boon to the visual and/or auditory learner; one will benefit from the wonderfully zany illustrations in this book and the other will benefit from the fun and kooky rhymes. By the time a youngster gets through with this book, he or she should be able to identify the elements of five basic geometric shapes and have the ability to compare and contrast one with the other with ease. This is the first "Math Is Categorical" book I've read by Brian Cleary and I'm hooked. I've loved of any of his "Words Are Categorical" had the privilege to meet and highly recommend them to any parent of a reluctant learner. Any Cleary book would be a welcome addition to any homeschool or classroom shelf!
