Draw Paint Print like the Great Artists

For serious kids
Deuchars is a British designer who has taken children seriously, explaining in very simple terms and hands-on experience some iconing techniques of modern artists such as Miro, Picasso or Calatrava. By doing so she has enabled kids to produce strikingly powerful and accomplished visual pieces themselves. Her books have different levels of complexity though, some being for 5-6 and others for 8 and up all the way to young adults. We have bought editions of this book in English, Spanish and French as birthday presents becasuse parents have commented on how inspiring it has been to see our kids producing art that looks so accomplished. On the one hand it is great to have an artist diary, constructed almos as a learning/experimenting log, and not as a coloring book. On another some of the techniques the book invits kids to experiment with would be better off in especial papers and not bound. One aspect to consider is that to take full advantage of this book, kids require to have access to a wide array of media. Although a begginer sample set of color pencils, water colors, tempera, etc would normally do, we did not have many of the specific materials before buying this book.In conclusion a most definitly 2 thumbs up, with the warning however of expecting to be asked to use a wide variety of techniques to take full advantage of it.

Got this book as a gift for my son's third grade teacher. She is very into the arts and I thought this might be a great book not only for her personal use but also for art project ideas for the class. I flipped through the book before we gifted it to her and its so full of fun little activities! I was half tempted to do them before giving them to her, haha! Anyway, she really enjoyed the book!

Great book
Oh how I LOVE this book. I purchased this after I received a recommendation from a fellow homeschool mom. As an artist I am loving the book just as much as my kiddos are! One of the really neat things is that it isn't just for art. It has also encouraged learning about some different cultures, too.

Nice workbook
I like that the lessons are based on individual artists and their particular expressions, asking the student to learn through the imitation of their art.

Inspiration for young and old artists
I just got this book in the mail and already my 5 year old has taken some of the methods described under Joan Miro's section and put them to use. He is inspired and feels empowered to make more art based on methods used by some of the greats.A must have for budding artists young and old!
