1.8" USB 2.0 Enclosure External Case Box for 1.8 ZIF Pata 40pin Hard Disk Drives

I have an old Panasonic HDD camcorder that suddenly packed up (failure of combination of components)... after some sweating, looking for an affordable way to retrieve the data, I came across this gem... there were only a few reviews and one photo. I took a chance, paid extra for priority post, and I was surprised to receive it earlier than expected!!! Popped the hard drive in (connecting the ribbon is a mild faff, but realistically only a 2min job) and fired it up. BAM!!! All my videos and photos were there!!! ...just need to convert from .MOI to MP4 or similar. If there was ever an affordable product, that did exactly what it said on the tin, this it! Don't expect precision engineered parts for what you pay but what you get works well, looks great, and saved a lot of tears! NOTES: the bottom half of the metal case does have a small cut out for the port, make sure you have it the right way round (check pics) Do not over tighten screws, it's possible to strip the screw holes... don't be tempted for another 1/4 turn! Tight is tight enough! Mine didn't arrive with foam, but no problem... I found some foam to pad the HDD to keep it secure (check pics) Well pleased!!! Many thanks!!!

Good. No instructions but found a YouTube video on how to insert the cable. More or less self explanatory. Does work as external. No breaks in communication using the laptop cable. Good value

Bought to make use of SSD out of a old Sony handycam. For the price VERY impressed, been using it in anger for work to transfer data and programs between customers machines. Was a little fiddly to fit the little ribbon cable (but only because I have fat fingers :-)). Would recommend to others. My only small criticism would be the tiny screws to secure the enclosure together seemed a little cheap, but perfectly functional all the same.

Good case, works perfectly, looks like a better version of the one I bought from RunCore (which had a metal like cover) - this one feels softer. The small screws stick out a tiny fraction on the sides - so beware if putting in pockets as it will likely snag, however it comes with a soft pouch case (very nice) - this fist the drive and USB leads. Inside they've provided a ZIF cable for connecting it to the drive and also some sticky pad which acts as cushions to stop the drive from moving when inside the case.

Awesome little case. I've bought many of these mini caddies over the years (usually for 2.5" drives) and they're usually variable in quality. This is not the case here. It has a nice, quality Matt finish, good LED and even comes in a useful little pouch. Very recommended.

I had a video camera that stopped working (no power) and could not retrieve my videos off it. This device made it possible to get my videos after I removed the tiny hard drive and placed it in the Zheino enclosure( very easy to do) and plugged the supplied USB cable to the laptop and was able to view my old home videos

This enclosure works well, and feels high quality. Worked without a problem first thing. The material is actually much nicer than I thought it would be. Having used a few of these ZIF to USB adapters, I can tell you the negative reviews are not correct. The main complaint I saw was that the drive LED does not blink, and the drive does not connect. This is caused by the cable being upside down on the board, or drive side. The ZIF connectors can easily be oriented upside down, and this will cause it to not work. If it doesn't work, try changing the position of the cable until it works. With my drive, the single USB cable provided enough power, even from android devices. I very highly recommend this enclosure for ZIF hard drives.

Very good product saving my data from a iPod classic hard drive

It works for my old iPod drive. The included USB cable is not very good. Luckily I have a bunch of them lying around so I was able to use one. Four stars because of the bad cable, and the very minor inconvenience that the included ribbon cable is very very long. Varying lengths of ribbon connectors would have been better.

Did not work, would not recognize my SSD Zif drive. The zif drive in question is recognized if I install it in my window tablet so it is this defective zif enclosure that has the problem. Piece of junk, it is going back.
