Most useful Kitchenware
It is almost 2 months since I bought this steamer. I have used it almost every day from the day I received it. Most vegetables can be steamed in 3 to 5 minutes. Beets take about 20 minutes( I like it soft, my husband prefers a little crunchy - that needs only 15 minutes of steaming). These days, I steam the vegetables in this cooker and then saute it for 2 to three minutes with the other ingredients already fried. Cooking seems to be much faster and the vegetables are definitely tastier now with their original color retained. As some reviewers have mentioned, the pot base stained right after the first steaming. Even with immediate cleaning, the marks were lightly seen. The second time I used it, I added a thin slice of lime to the water in the pot (as I usually do for the pressure cooker). No stains! So water stains is not a problem at all. In fact, after use, the steamer looks as clean as before, even with a water rinse. But I do use dish soap for psychological reasons. I had also read about the ears getting hot and making it difficult to hold the steamer basket while emptying the vegetables to another vessel. They do get hot but I found them very bearable hot. May be, my heat threshold is high. Over all, I love the functional part of this steamer most, not to forget the finish. The quality of steel seems to be good. To date, it still looks new and shiny. I find it the best value for money. Would strongly recommend this to any one looking for a steamer for a family of two/three (you could steam multiple times if needed for additional members).

Perfect size.
Perfect size. I delayed ordering this because I thought it would be too big. I just wanted something small enough to steam some vegetables for just me. I've had a Farberware set for many years, and this matches the design. It's not as heavy as my old ones so at first, I thought it wasn't as well made. Now that I've used it a few times, I'm glad it's lighter weight. So glad I finally ordered it.

Farberware Classic is a great product. Lasts a lifetime.
You can never go wrong by buying Farberware. This steamer is no exception! Would not get this size for a larger family however perfect for a smaller one.

My steamer needs solved!
I love this product. I had been purchasing steamer baskets, all of which either didn't really do the job the way I wanted or simply fell apart on me after a few uses. When I saw this product, it struck me as exactly what I wanted. Positives: -Handles make it easy to move -Easy to clean -Doubles as a regular pot if desired Negatives: -Handles do get hot. I have a gas stove, so maybe it's the hot air rising causing this and an electric might not have the issue, but people with electric stoves can comment on whether the heat is being transferred directly from the pot or not. However, the handles have not melted or anything. I just need to use potholders to move it, which is not a big deal. It might be weird to say, but this is one of my favorite pieces in the kitchen. It's up there right next to my immersion blender. Steaming was always a bit of a hassle before I had this, but now it's as simple as I always knew it should have been. I can easily dump all of my vegetables in the basket while the water boils in the pot, carry over the basket, and drop it in. Cover and done!

Great steamer, but handles get HOT! (UPDATED 06-02-09)
Maybe "A customer from CLEVELAND, OH" was trying to cook more than one ostrich egg, because this thing has lots of room - as any 3qt pot will - for MANY normal sized chicken eggs. This thing is for steaming, anyway! This is a great steamer. The only thing I don't like about it is the lack of a longer handle to stay cool away from the flame/burner. The small handles on this thing get very hot, and after cooking my ostrich eggs I have never been able to grab it off the stove without pot holders. High quality, definitely worth the price. UPDATED 09-25-10: I've had this steamer pot since Oct. 2002 - 8 years! - and it has steamed tons of broccoli, artichokes, and asparagus. No ostrich eggs, yet! :P Aside from discoloration of the inside/bottom of the pan (caused by forgetting to put water in the thing with the burner turned on high - Oops!), it's still in excellent condition and working great.

Works for me!
My copy arrived in a timely fashion and in new condition, though I bought the "clearance/open box" version. After finding out that boiling or microwaving reduces nutrients in vegetables by 70% (Alton Brown, among others) I decided to give this a try. After finding the best heat and time settings I am now a steamer-only cook. The superior taste alone is worth the investment in this steamer with the knowledge that I/we are getting far better nutrition as a big bonus benefit. The brighter and cleaner appearance of the end product seals the deal and draining is a snap. In the reviews there are allegations that the material is not stainless steel. To test the steel composition all that is needed is a magnet. Using a strong magnet reveals that the components are slightly attractive to the magnet, confirming that all are indeed stainless steel. The very best stainless will have no attraction to the strongest of magnets, so this is consistent with the grade of stainless claimed in the description. Durability: I haven't had my set for even a month yet so I cannot offer anything here other than the obvious. I expect if I use this assembly over a forge and let it go dry, it will take on the appearance that one reviewer posted photos of. Grade school science should have taught us that water can only reach 212° F (100° C), beyond which there will only be invisible steam. Obviously, the vessel will no longer have any liquid water to cool it and away we go!

Just the right size.
Very versitile. Small family uses it to steam veggies or dumplings, or just the bottom for tomato sauce, soup or rice.

Best Vegetable Steamer
This vegetable steamer is the best ever! I wonder why it took me so long to order one. The bottom of the pot is sturdy so it can be safely boiled on a smooth topped stove. (My triple boiler cannot work on this stove as the middle pot is too thin and the pot rocks when water is being boiled). Due to the design of this pot, there is no risk of being burned by steam when draining because you can just take the top pot off the boiler pot and you're done. I would highly recommend this steamer.

Eficaz y muy práctico
Me encantó.
