As good as all of the reviews claim.
I am one of those people who irons every morning so I'm a bit picky about how well my iron works. I have been using one of those teflon coated irons but it died recently and that sent me on the quest for a new iron. I liked that the teflon coating slid over every fabric and never sticks. I was expecting to have to get something really expensive but I found so many positive reviews for this iron that I decided to give it a whirl even though it has a steel base. In using the iron, I find that it glides just as easily over cloth as my teflon coated one did so my one biggest concern was a non-issue. I also like that it chimes when it reaches the temperature that you set and find that it heats up very quickly. I often will wear clothes where the top and the bottom have to be ironed at different temperatures so I find the chime to be very handy. Some people complained about the steam dial being too easy to accidentally nudge, but I don't find that to be the case at all. The iron pushes out a LOT of steam compared to my last iron and it does an awesome job of getting the wrinkles out of clothing. The water reservoir is significantly larger than my last iron and that is a good thing given the amount of steam it can push out. The only non-positive comments I would have are related to button placement and cord wrapping. I am right handed and find that placing the "blast of steam" button on the left and the spray button on the right is backwards as I tend to want to blast steam more often than spray water. I find that I am always pushing the wrong button. That being said, this unit pushes out so much steam that I rarely use the steam button. There is no way to wrap the power cord around the heel and the back of the handle (which is how you wrap the cord on my last iron). The only way to wrap the cord is from the back of the handle to the nose of the iron (where the water filler door is located) and therein lies my complaint. I find that the water filler door has a little lip that you pull to open it and the cord catches on this lip when you wrap the cord. The lid then flips open and I know that one of these days, the lid will just snap off when I'm wrapping up the cord to put the iron away. Minor gripes, admittedly, for an otherwise outstanding and reasonably priced product.

Better than Rowenta PowerDuo
After suffering through three years with a Rowenta PowerDuo, I finally decided to cut my loss (over $100 for the Rowenta) and find a new iron that didn't drip and spit all over my clothes every time I used it. I read through dozens of product reviews, and the Black and Decker just seemed to be the best overall. The negative comments about the somewhat flimsy cover on the water spout, and how easy it is to accidentally move the steam dial (along with a relatively small water reservoir) are true, but those are relatively minor details that don't detract from the overall performance - and value - of this iron. It's not too heavy (it's actually a bit lighter than my old Rowenta), works for hours with no problem and rarely drips (an occasional drop or two, and only after heavy continuous use) and has NEVER spit like my old Rowenta did constantly. I've had this iron for close to a year now, and love it. I tend to do laundry in big batches, which means I'm usually ironing a couple of weeks worth of shirts and pants (primarily cotton, cotton/poly blends, and polyester), and have the iron going for two or three hours straight. The Black & Decker has always worked perfectly, no matter if it's a quick touch up of one small item, or powering through two or three dozen items of differing materials and weights. It heats up quickly, and adjusts temperature up or down even faster as you switch fabric settings to keep you going through a pile of wrinkled clothes quickly and easily. I've had lots of irons over the years, and this one is at least as good as any I've ever had. It's a great value, and for most people, is the iron to go with.

Irons quite well!
I wasn't expecting too much from this iron. I've had a Rowenta for the past 14 years. It still works but is starting to scorch things on the cotton setting. I wasn't ready to spend the big bucks to replace it. Seeing so many positive reviews and the reasonable price, I decided to take a chance on this iron. I use an iron a lot for sewing and quilting, so my performance benchmark is pretty high. This iron surprised me - I ironed a difficult to press shirt of my husband's and the B&D did a great job in a short time. There's plenty of steam and the thing glides over the fabric. Tight spots smooth out with ease. It goes around buttons perfectly. I was impressed with how quickly it heats and I actually like the digital display more than I thought I would. One pass completely eliminates wrinkles just like my Rowenta did in its prime. The primary reason for 4-star rating is the water filler cover is poorly designed and I can see how it could easily break. I am babying mine hoping it will hold up. On the highest steam level it gobbles water, but that's to be expected. The direction of the water dispenser overshoots where I want to moisten the fabric, but not a big deal. I also find the steam dial to be in an awkward place, but that could just be me. In conclusion, for the money this is an impressive iron. I'll update after more time goes by since I've only had this for a short time. Edit: July 3, 2019 On my fifth year of using this iron. I still love it. The settings on the display are true to the fabric being pressed. Just today I pressed some polyester sheers without a pressing cloth and they came out perfect using the poly setting. Through the years, I have always unplugged the iron when finished and many days it has been plugged in all day into the night when I am making a quilt or sewing clothes. The little flap for adding water is still attached - have used a light touch with it because it is not strong. This iron has never spat water or discolored any fabric being pressed - never had a scorch or melt. I believe I have put it through many hours of rigorous use - sometimes working weeks at a time from very early morning to late at night. I would recommend this iron and would buy it again. Not sure why others have had a bad experience with it. Will update again if something changes with the performance of this iron, but until then I have been both impressed and very pleased with my purchase.

So Good I'm Tempted to Buy a Spare!
I've had a few bad iron relationships and was ready to break-up with the current one that enjoyed throwing up on everything, leaving water stains that required washing before wearing. It's been so long since I had an iron I really liked that I began to think it was me, not them. I did a bit of research in the Amazon reviews and was all ready to buy an expensive iron by another manufacturerer that was twice the price until I saw recent reviews that indicated a product decline that came after they moved their manufacturing to another country. I decided to try this iron based on the many favorable reviews - thanks to all who contribute - and it being listed as their #1 Best Selling Iron. When I saw how well the iron was packaged, I had a good feeling about it. I don't think I've ever had an iron that was wrapped in tissue and the plate had cardboard attached to protect it. There were also cardboard inserts that prevented the iron from moving - simply awesome protective packaging. Then I encountered something amazing - an instruction manual! The last few appliances we received had none, so this was absolutely impressive. The iron has the largest water reservoir of any I've seen and I was able to iron several man's shirts with the steam setting in the mid-range without using half the water. It even comes with a little container with a small spout for filling the reservoir. The iron has multiple steam settings and is effective even at the lowest steam setting - and the higher settings produce such plentiful steam that you can almost give yourself a facial (OK, so I exaggerate, but only a bit). While the weight of the iron is a bit more than my past few irons, I quickly adjusted and the glide of the iron across clothing was so smooth it actually required less effort than the lighter weight. The iron has a digital display and you press a little button to increase the temperature settings. At each setting, the display shows the numerical setting and the type of fabric it is appropriate for. To turn the iron off, you hold the button in for a few seconds until the display darkens, indicating it is shut off. I love this iron and am almost tempted to buy another to have a spare for the day when this has met it's shelf life. At half the price of the one I was contemplating, it's a real bargain and I don't think you'll be disappointed by the ease of ironing you'll find with this iron.

This steam iron is good at killing bed bugs in my clothes
I recently purchased this iron and I needed it to kill bed bugs on my clothing. For almost 5 1/2 years I have had bed bugs and for 5 1/2 years I notice they like to crawl on my body during the day when I am wearing my levis and work shirt walking around. So I finally figured a way to do something about it.I could have washed my clothes everyday that would have gotten rid of the problem.I wash my linen and clothes every week.So I decided to try ironing my clothes just my underwear and levis pants.Since the bed bugs are moving around inside the pants and sometimes in the pockets.I take one pant leg and pull one inner pant leg out do the top side then the bottom side of it then the seam and then after I have done one side I iron the ironing board in case any moved from the other side. Then I put one pant leg back in .Then pull out the other inner pant leg once I am done with both topside and bottom.I put it back and do the outside of the pant leg and then the other side of the outer pant leg. Then the pockets last.I always go over the pant leg with the iron until it is warm or hot so you have enough heat to kill the bed bugs. The steam runs out fairly quick by the end of the second inner pant leg your steam should be out.You can check by pushing the top spray button if no steam comes out refill the steam with the filled cup that comes with the iron.By the time I have done ironing the pants I have filled the steam up twice and when I try to dump the excess water in the iron nothing comes out. Put it on the highest setting that is the linen setting and put it on the highest steam setting. You need steam to kill bed bugs the heat to kill bed bugs must be transferred through the iron through the steam. You also need to put it on a high setting to kill bed bugs like linen or cotton.I only do my pants not my shirt because that is the only place that usually itches where I get rashes from bed bug biting me in the thighs. My shirt I do not usually itch.Bed bugs like to go crawl in the pants area. This iron is doing a good job killing bed bugs in my clothing.I like the digital display where it tells you what fabric temperature you are at.I also like the feel and handling it is well built to last a long time.I open the water fill with the tip of a flat head screwdriver so I do not break it.This is a good iron.Let me tell you how to get rid of bed bugs in your body it is real easy.Get a high pressured hand held shower head with a long metal hose where you can actually put the shower head on the part of the body where you want to get rid of the bed bug and that is it. YOO.MEE makes a high pressured hand held shower head with 3 different settings that are high pressured and will get the job of getting bed bugs off your body and do it well. You do not even have to use the half dish soap half water solution I suggested.Regular shower heads are not made to get rid of bed bugs on your body because they are to high up and can not move so you cannot put pressure on the part of the body where bed bugs are and you use a lot more water trying to get rid of the bed bug because of this reason and you must have to use the half dish soap and half water solution and have to scrub for at least 15 minutes or twenty minutes with the solution in your hair.

Excellent - Consumer Reports rated it #1, and now I do too!
While I don't claim any brand loyalty, my last (and over 6 years old) iron was a Black and Decker Steam Advantage. It's forced steam function finally died, so I went trekking for something new. I was quite surprised to get my first issue of Consumer reports and see that the D2030 Digital Advantage was #1 above several other $100+ Rowenta's. Their total score given was 74/100 but don't let that fool you. The second place contender was 62/100! Just for reference, here's their take on the D2030: Performance: 4/5 Durability: 5/5 Steaming: 4/5 Ease of Use: 4/5 Weight(lbs.): 4.1 Water Tank (oz.): 12 I am... well I WAS used to dial-turn type irons when it came to heat level adjustments. Seeing a high rating on a "digital" iron made me nervous, but hey - why not?! There's one turn-style knob that adjusts steam output to your preferred level, and when it's fully open it puts out an impressive amount of steam. Not so much as to drown your clothes, but more than any iron I have encountered. On top there's a digital display that displays the numbers 1-7 as you press the button. Each level is accompanied on the digital display by a fabric type, so if you have it at level 7, the display has a LARGE "7" and below that it reads "cotton". The display, by the way is backlit and large, so it's very readable for pretty much anyone who would want to. The swivel built into the back end that keeps you from getting cord-entangled is excellent. It moves smoothly, not chunkily. It twists as well as pivots, so there's no annoying sudden POP that makes your iron shoot across that shirt you were ironing. It's the little things like this that make the D2030 impressive. The water fill opening is near the front of the Iron, and when the iron is standing up - the hole to fill it up is 100% upright. This was a biggie for me. My previous iron needed to be held a certain way to avoid the lid and you always ended up spilling some. The lid/door on the D2030 gets WELL out of the way for filling, and the little filler cup that it comes with is absolutely PERFECT for it. No effort required here, just pop it open and pour. Ok, I COULD complain that it takes 2.5 fills of the filler cup to fill the D2030 up, but I'm not super lazy, so I won't; I'll just point it out in case that's a concern for you. =) What else.... The steam output, again - amazing. The adjustment from little to fog machine is very precise and it's easy to make slight steam in- or de-creases. It shuts off after 10 minutes if you walk away from it - whether or not it's upright or face down. The weight is slightly heavier than most I have seen, but I can't say it's any less easy to move than any other iron I have used. 4.1lbs isn't much when most are in the 3-3.6 range and I tend to think that the weight helps with those tougher, thicker cottons. Final thoughts: Buy it. Buy it now! You won't regret this purchase. I would have paid $200+ easily if I had been given a 7 day in-home trial.

Rowenta WHO??
Boy, did I make the right move!! Thanks to a reviewer who regretted not re-purchasing his "old" B&D 2030, when he tried out his "new" Rowenta Effective DW2000 (was THAT ever an inappropriate style name!), I returned my in-effective Rowenta in time for a refund and bought this beauty. You can see my review on the Rowenta 300 hole (actually 27) posted. This Black and Decker is FABULOUS! I breezed through a pair of wool dress slacks, a raincoat, three men's cotton dress shirts, and four T-shirts in about 40 minutes on one tank of water. And my 100% cotton shirts were actually pressed! Not semi-pressed like the job the Rowenta did. I would have had to refill the Rowenta 3+ times for the same job. I have been ironing for over 50 years, and this is the best iron I have run across. Should have known Black & Decker would keep up with the times. My Mom used the old "Classic" B&D, as did I for many years. This iron is heavy enough to add some pressure along with VERY effective and responsive steam, but glides easily enough so that you don't wear out your arm. The digital temperature controls are conveniently displayed in the top of the handle by the burst of steam and spray buttons, and the temps are quickly reached in this 1500 amp iron. A beep lets you know when it is ready, and I bet you can't blink three times before it does! The only drawback for me is the cord. I had to control it, but that's always been a problem in the past and I'm used to it. I'll hunt around for a cord suspender attachment for my Brabantia ironing board (still a winner!). At under $50 bucks, I say Rowenta Who?? Look no further folks, you will LOVE it!!

An iron that actually works!!!!
This is without a doubt the best iron on the market in the US. I have done way too much research into this over the past few months, but the result is this is the gold standard. I do a fair amount of ironing and have tried out three irons in the past six months and found that none come close to this iron. This does not mean it is perfect, but it outperforms the competition by so much, there really is no competition. A good iron needs to be really not and have lots of steam. You really need both for efficient ironing. I have timed ironing the identical items with the rowenta steamium and this iron as well as a Panasonic. This iron produced a crisper tablecloth in substantially less time(it took me 2.5 times as long on the rowenta). The Panasonic did not get as hot, but at least had steam, the rowenta only produces the steam when the trigger is pulled, making it in my opinion, not a true steam iron. Both of these irons never got hot enough at the highest settings. They were both able to glide easily over a nylon bag on the linen setting. Conversely, The black decker iron dragged when on a higher setting as you would expect when trying to iron something with an iron that was too hot. There is a reason that this iron has so many great reviews and that is that it works. I really wonder how these people at consumer reports, etc are testing the appliances, because if they were standing around ironing tablecloths, they would soon realize the reason people dread ironing is that it takes so long. For all those people out there, change your life, get this iron and free yourself. You may have to buy a new one every three years (it does have a 2 year warranty as a opposed to the 1 year offered by rowenta), but it is a third of the price and you will love ironing.
