58.5 IS LOUD!
I live in rural Texas. Sound carries A LONG WAY out here. LOL This thing echoed ALL OVER the neighborhood at 5:15 PM Central Time. I blew it while the sun was still out. God this thing is loud. I'm 57 and I bought it in case I get in trouble, in parking lots and etc. This is the REAL deal. Heavy and solid. No thin metal piece of crap. This is thick and heavy so, it will last. Like I said, I bought it get attention if I'm in trouble or assistance. I tried it out twice and thoroughly convinced I made the right the choice. I paid 9.14 and it was well worth it. Get one for protection. Or, get a Acme Police Whistle. You need one in case you get in trouble and have nothing else. IT WILL GET ATTENTION! Every dog in the neighborhood started barking after I blew it. I ordered it on June 29th and it arrived July 11th. It took sometime to get to me so, don't get discouraged. Yes, it was worth the wait.

It really works,
wowz, they return everyday @ the same time, i treat them with raw eggs , and they really goes Bananas when you boil them. At first they were shocked they thought I had one of them and were kind hostile, no drive bombing or nothing like that. But when they see a bring food they changed from 0-100 real quick. I gotta chill on the food people start"n to look at me like i am (brandon lee) or something , but the crows are very intelligent. They know me without food and still call out now.

Great crow call for deterring hunters! Crow hunting should be illegal in all states!
This thing sucks. Regardless of following advice on YouTube on how to properly use this thing, it still sounds like a kazoo on steroids. Using it didn't attract crows at all. Instead the sound freaked out the crows so much that using this thing elicited severe scolding and actually deterred the crows from returning. If you want to scare crows away, this crow call is perfect! I really do hope that crow hunters are using this ridiculous thing because it will definitely keep the crows away and safe from creeps who like to do them harm.

OW LOUD! A SCARY STRONG WHISTLE. (Cover Your Ears!) Should last a Long Time.
Why did I use ALL CAPS in the headline? Because I'm YELLING! I bought the Acme 58.5 Thunderer Whistle (Large), and I'm YELLING because I can't hear myself think. Turns out, it's exactly what I had hoped it would be. I wanted a large, scary-loud whistle to scare away woodpeckers that peck on our house, deer that eat our precious plants, and assorted other wild animals that pose a threat to pets. After it first arrived, I tested it inside and scared myself -- so I knew it would work. So far, so good. A mob of four deer visited our backyard for a leisurely brunch the other day. Three toots and they moved on . . . quickly. Nevertheless, a word of caution. If you have sensitive hearing, cover your ears when you toot. The whistle is that piercing. Very well-made. Should last forever. Definitely worth the price when I purchased it.

Whistle
This whistle is named correctly, Thunder Whistle. It is well made, has a pea, you can lightly blow it and it is LOUD. When we are at the coast and on the beach with our Lab and the wind is blowing 50mph, this whistle comes in Loud and Thunder. I highly recommend buying.

Great whistles. ACME, nuff said.
Acme makes some beautiful whistles. I wish they would have included some instructions. I'll get it right though.Moments later, Got it . There is instructions on the back of the package.a little vague but instructions none the less. You may want to have a small syringe to put the same amount of water in each time for a consistent sound. The screw and stopper should have NO problem keeping the water contained. Great whistles.

Wonderful sound - very fiddly to get working the first time
I don't know what the difference is, but I fiddled with this the first day I got it for half an hour without being able to make it warble. Too much water? Too little water? Blow harder/softer? No clue.A month or so later (now), I played with it again. Didn't change the water level. It works great. There's no way to tell how much water is in it - that's probably magic, and you have to blow HARD.So be prepared to experiment. Now that it works I'm much happier.

it's the 59.5, a good metal whistle
hardly need a review for this whistle: it's an old-fashioned, very well made (in England) whistle with pea. I like it. the only reason I bother to review is that it was next to impossible to figure out which model this was from the stocking number: it is in fact the 59.5 which Acme calls their medium, between the easiest to blow, highest pitch, model (the small 60.5) and the deeper toned harder to blow large (the 58.5). it's easy enough to blow and should last a good long while. nicely polished and made in the old world. a classic. mine shipped super quick

Great product, rubbish instructions.
Thought I should write a genuine review of this product as all the previous ones are either 5 stars but clearly made up or genuine but give one star. I bought this to help with decoying crows and bring them in closer. It arrived quickly and looked OK. If you then follow the instructions on the packaging you will certainly sound like a dying duck with asthma and not attract many corvids. Hence one star reviews. However if you go on YouTube and watch the two-part video about how to use this PROPERLY, then it works a treat. Angle it in your mouth (I rest the top part on my top teeth) and growl into it. I was out for about an hour and a half today and kept calling, bringing crows (not rooks) the whole time. I didn't even get to drink my flask of coffee. Great product, rubbish instructions, practice, bingo!

Peewit/Curlew calls, duck calls and train whistles.
1000+ reviews of a peewit/curlew call? No, Amazon have lumped together all the reviews of every Acme product (and probably more). I know this now for certain because I am currently trying to review Acme's train whistle, but Amazon makes me edit this instead.I bought a duck call and a peewit call, as the peewit call was cheap, but I hated it at first because it hissed and didn't work well; but I didn't bother sending it back, as it was so cheap, and the duck call was the main attraction. (The duck calls are fabulous, although mine seems deeper than I'd expect, so I wonder if the pitch varies. I might buy another out of curiosity.)But then after a year I picked up the peewit call and blew it as hard as I could, in anger, and it worked perfectly! So, for those of you who want a peewit/curlew call (yeah, there aren't a lot of you), this thing is great, but only if you give it some serious welly! As for the train whistle, I waited more than a year to find one near half price. I'm glad I did, as it has a lovely deep sound, but a) the mouthpiece is a bit wide, so that you need huge lungs to get it to sound for long, and also it's a bit easy to overblow, which spoils the effect and means it can never be very loud, except in very small rooms.

It works with practice
Not easy to master. YouTube instruction is good. Once mastered it's surprisingly effective for corvids. Crow is easiest to achieve and also easy to mess up. I can't as yet manage pigeon. I've called corvids, duck and others just for fun. My son mastered pigeons first blow, but his crow sounds like a strangled duck. So it's obviously down to the individual to get right. If it's any help my crow call is a sort of hum come rolling of Rrr's whilst blowing but, daft as it reads it works, crows answer and in they come.

Brilliant
I tried to follow the instructions on the packet, but it just didn't seem to sound quite right. So I looked on YouTube and found an man on there that said you need to blow with a sort of hum kind of noise. This works a treat for decoying.I listened to the crows that were about in the field and managed to mimic them and this clever piece of kit brought them in.Much cheaper than the electronic ones and you can do what ever call you want to bring them in.Would recommend for anyone want to go decoying for crows/rooks
