A Good Primer for Learning About the Process of Change

Ten years ago the practices and awareness of the skills necessary to ‘change’ successfully were little known but definitely were in use. If you need to influence others and know little about change management, organizational transformation, or some of the other buzz words involved with the process of change than this book would be a good place to start. It is a very short read, more of a primer actually, but it does introduce several basic change concepts along with recommendations for further learning. Think of this book as a flashing sign alerting and steering you toward the knowledge of change. For that purpose, I given Jurgen Appelo high marks. If you are already involved in the change process and aware of terms such as ADKAR, Adoption Curve, or the PDCA model you likely will get little more than an understanding of the author’s personal journey through failures to his current role as a successful change agent.

Good reference booklet for change agents

This book is really good for those who just started to be a change agent, but has no idea how do it. I liked the four aspects of change management 3.0, their explanations and the related examples. The book is well structured, it starts with the basic and ends with advanced topics. The PDCA model is a good choice for starters the ADKAR model is really good for those who are looking for some practical/hands-on ideas. When I read the "Stimulate the Network" part I had different feelings. I understood that the model is important to introduce the last section, but for me the original paper on the "Diffusion of Innovations" was enough. If you never heard about it, then you are at the right place, because the chapter is better than the wiki page. Finally, the last chapter - "Change the Environment" - will make you think about your own environment and how you see the world. I was looking for something original from Jurgen - maybe it is not original, but a well mixed mockito cocktail - and the time I spent on reading it was worth it.My favorite chapter was the "Desire", because it highlighted something I never considered - I don't want to spoil anything - and now I see certain situations differently.I liked the book, but I gave only 4 stars, because for me there were too many references to ALE and Stoos and the Diffusion of Innovations was a bit redundant.

A quick, great read

This book is short, concise and practical, which is a rare combination. I would recommend this book to all professionals, no more or less. We would all like to change our work environment (people, organization, processes, culture), and what else to do than doing it ourselves?

New to change management

This book is a great intro to becoming an agent of change! The topics covered provide clear, easy to understand concepts with creative visuals/acronyms that make them easier to remember. The framework for introducing and managing change just makes sense. Change Management 3.0 is approachable, simple, and engaging.I absolutely recommend this book to anyone who's interested in change management, or wants to improve any complex social system.

Quite and direct

I would completely recommend this books. It gives tips about management and relates interesting examples about it.It is quite up-to-date and direct. It make me want to read the other book of the author, "Management 3.0".

Light Reading

It is a fun light read but is light on concrete examples and too abstract. I cannot recommend investing the money or the hour to read it.

I'm in love with this book

How to change the World is a book about how to change your perspective of failing and start again challenging thinks and people to do things being a less passive person.Jurgen bring to us his point of view about his 15 years of fails and show us how to change your life stopping to try change your life to you adapt to the other's will and start to impose your wills to give you a better life.

Great! a unified model that save's you having to read a library yourself!

How to Change the World is a small (and perfectly formed) extension to Jurgen's Management 3.0 book; and I believe you get the most out of this book after first reading the former. It adopts the same principle: Jurgen loves to read, so let him so that for you and present you with a holistic, accessible and well-understood summary to digest. The good thing is that you get a great practical introduction into change management, which really comes alive combined with the other principles in Management 3.0.The less good aspect is if you already have walked the change management path, this may be a little simplistic for you. I can see how others might have this perspective, but I still found it extremely useful as a way to get information I needed without having to spend days reading drier books on the subject. If you want to see how to put the Management 3.0 principles into immediate practice then check out the new #Workout book from Jurgen.I am sure I'll me making use of this and the other books for years to come.

Great style of writing, not convinced there's much content here

Jurgen Appelo has a refreshing and entertaining way of writing that makes this a light and fun read. In my opinion though the book is a bit lightweight, and is probably not going to change the world. He references the book 'Influencer - the Power to Change Anything' several times in his own book, and I would say that this would be a much better investment for your money. Sorry Jurgen. I like your style tho.

Nothing new

The book doesn’t offer anything new apart from bringing different tools and put them together. Even the way they are presented is shallow

Clear and to the point

This is a great little book. Jurgen has summarised an approach - taken from all the current and existing thinking - to make change your organisation. It's not long and doesn't wander off track. An easy read but one which you'll find yourself going back to often to "find the right way".
