How wide are the brushes?

They are 1-1/2" and 3/4". A "rollover" on the images shows the sizes embossed in the metal bands.

Are these brushes stiff enough to grease pans with shortening?

I think they're a little too flexible for scooping shortening out. I think once it was in the pan you might be able to. Definitely ok for getting in the corners. But wouldn't be my first choice.

Why boar bristles? Cool brush though.
