I really like this item. Like most amateur DIYers I had some 15 year old Stanley-knife from who knows where, that just about did the job I wanted. Eventually though, I came across these utility/folding knives, I knew that without question this was something I needed. It simply must belong in my toolkit!! There were of course a LOT to choose from, I considered various Stanley, Rolson and other options, but then came across this one from Bosch. This is from their professional range, which generally are well regarded. Bosch are great at good old German engineering. This utility knife is no exception. It comes in the traditional blue colouring of Bosch Professional range. The main body seems to be made of aluminium, which gives it a sturdy, quality feel to it. It fits nicely in the hand. It has a black, plastic section on the back which you can squeeze and lift to reveal a little storage area for your spare blades, these are held securely by a clip of sorts (I'd estimate it'll hold 4-5, but this item comes with 3x Bosch blades in total). It has a hole in the handle, which enables you to hang this on hooks in tool shed etc, it also has a belt clip for storing on the move. The main strength for me is the security features, the blades on this are obviously EXTREMELY sharp, and as I have a young son, I need any help I can get to keep things safe. This knife has a lock on the blade (the red button) which has a medium strong spring to it. Opening the knife is definitely a two-handed approach, otherwise the blade is safely tucked away inside. The lock doesn't feel flimsy at all, so I'm not concerned about it being pulled loose. The mechanism that holds the blade also has a safety lock in it to make sure the blade is held in place and doesn't fall out. Similarly, it's much easier to change blades than old-style Stanley's that often required screw removal to change the blades. Overall this is great, it meets my expectations from Bosch, and certainly has made me look into other tools in the Professional range. Very good item.

Bought to replace an ageing Stanley retractable which was retracting unexpectedly due to wear and the position of the retraction button on the top. This Bosch is a lot more more expensive and complex. It is good, but could be better. It feels comfortable in the hand -secure and reasonably ergonomic, but the pocket clip annoys my palm a bit, and is not easily removeable. There is lots of blade play with the supplied blades. It appears strongly made, but the blade compartment lid should obviously be metal. If that breaks off or won't lock shut, the knife becomes pretty useless. Same goes for the plastic blade locking button, although at least this is somewhat recessed and protected. The blade compartment holds 3 blades max. For those who need it, one handed opening is possible with 2 flicks: straight down first, and then out.

Excellent folding box cutting tool with spare blades in the handle that folds up well. When opened the blade is held securely and cuts very well. Well made and built to last, highly recommended.
