Reliable, easy to use, simple management and necessary with multiple devices in the home network
An excellent home network switch with easy to use controls and monitoring. If you have multiple Wi-Fi and ethernet devices in your household network, you will no doubt have come across a situation where something decides to flood your network and stop everything working. Known as a broadcast storm, a device can flood the network to the point where everything stops and it can be time consuming to work out which device is storming the network and then restart it. Netgear hardware is great for the home user, very good quality and easy to manage. And this great, cheap (for what it does) switch allows you to set limits on each of it's ports to that 'if' a device does have a meltdown and start broadcasting wildly, the switch will stop it in it's tracks. You simply look at the monitoring console to see which port and therefore spur of your network is flooding and it simplifies the process of restarting the 'bad actor'. Definitely worth upgrading to this type of switch compared to the basic, unmanaged switch.

Still works great a few months down the line
I'm a few months into using this switch and it's been pleasantly smooth sailing. I'm a novice when it comes to networking, so I was glad to be met by the seamlessly easy plug-and-play of the device. I set this up in the upstairs hallway and it serves to provide the upstairs systems (mostly Computers & TV Boxes) with a stable and constant ethernet connection - I'm happy to say it hasn't yet failed in this role. Very nice product, sold at a very reasonable price.

8 Port Gigabit Network Switch
The NETGEAR 8 Port Gigabit Network Switch (GS308) is a reliable and efficient networking solution that offers excellent performance and ease of use. As someone who values a fast and stable internet connection for both work and entertainment, I've found the GS308 to be a valuable addition to my home network setup. One of the standout features of the GS308 is its Gigabit Ethernet ports, which provide lightning-fast wired connections for devices such as computers, gaming consoles, smart TVs, and more. With eight ports available, I have plenty of room to connect all of my wired devices without sacrificing speed or performance. Setup is a breeze with the GS308. The switch comes pre-configured out of the box, so all I had to do was plug in my devices and connect the switch to my router using an Ethernet cable. There's no need for complicated software installation or configuration, making it perfect for users of all experience levels. The compact and sleek design of the GS308 is another plus. Its small footprint allows it to fit easily into any home or office environment, whether placed on a desk or mounted on a wall. The sturdy metal housing not only adds durability but also helps dissipate heat, ensuring reliable performance even under heavy usage. In terms of performance, the GS308 delivers blazing-fast speeds and low latency, making it ideal for bandwidth-intensive tasks such as gaming, streaming, and file transfers. Whether I'm downloading large files, streaming 4K video, or playing online games, I can count on the GS308 to provide a smooth and lag-free experience. Another feature that I appreciate about the GS308 is its energy-efficient design. The switch automatically adjusts power consumption based on network traffic and cable length, helping to reduce energy costs and minimize environmental impact. Plus, the switch is fanless, so it operates silently and won't disturb me during work or sleep. Overall, I highly recommend the NETGEAR 8 Port Gigabit Network Switch (GS308) to anyone in need of a reliable and high-performance networking solution for their home or small office. With its Gigabit Ethernet ports, easy setup, compact design, and energy-efficient operation, it's a must-have for anyone looking to upgrade their wired network infrastructure.

Amazing Plug and play switch to expand home network.
I needed a switch to expand the amount of devices I have hardwired in my home network and this has been perfect for what I needed. It’s small, made of metal and feels extremely robust. The package comes with the unit and the power supply only so no cables included on this one. I’ve got this plugged in with my router sitting on top and have had no issues so far with heat or interference. There is no heat being transferred through the case and I feel very comfortable with it being plugged in all the time. For installation, this is a plug and play device which requires no management. Plug a cat6 cable into one port on the device and the other end into a free port on the router and then lead your other devices into any of the other ports. It’s worth noting that if you’re buying this switch and have gigabit Ethernet, you will need at least Cat6 cables to get the highest speeds. The size isn’t much bigger than a ps5 game game and comes in a nice black/blue colour. Overall I’m very happy with this and have seen zero issues so far and will update this review again if this changes. Definitely recommend for the price!

Simple to use; an Ethernet cable is not provided
An addition to an established network. An older model has been used for many years primarily to serve a small group of NAS devices together with a smaller 5-port version that serves a TV and other video devices directly connected to a router. This "NETGEAR 8 Port Gigabit Network Switch GS308 | Ethernet Switch | Ethernet Splitter | Plug-and-Play | Silent Operation | Desktop or Wall Mount" is required in another room to serve a TV and other devices located within it - a network extender was previously used but seemed often to lose signals from the router and thus cause the connected devices to not provide certain functions, over-air updates in most instances. The packaging contains the switch and its PSU but not an Ethernet cable but several were available. The old extender was recently replaced by a more powerful alternative that is claimed to offer much improved reception and signal strength although it is limited to a single Ethernet port on-board rather than the four of its predecessor. This will provide the additional ports needed and a few spares, should they ever be needed for a laptop or any device that may be needed in the short-term or anything to be permanently added later. It was available at a price similar to that of a 4-port version. It is quite rugged, the original being accidentally pulled from it desktop location to a hard floor on several occasions and it just keeps working. Connected to its PSU and switched on, with an Ethernet cable connecting it to recently added network extender, it is now fully functional.
