qtxHigh Powered LED PAR & Wireless Remote Control | RGB (Multi-colour)

I purchased 2 of these QTX High Powered LED PAR & Wireless Remote Control to use in my studio for band practise and also to add colour wash for small staging when playing live. I have them in the studio, one pointing at band and the other toward the Drum end. They are much brighter than others at nearly twice the price, although they are made of plastic they seem well built!! only time will tell how durable they are, but treated with care there should not be a problem, there are lots of different programs and they can also be linked to a DMX unit. I was a little worried at the fan noise, as some reviewers said they are noisy, and as I record band practises I worried if they would ruin the recording, to this end I used a DB counter to check fan levels, Running the 2 lights side by side, the DB level at 1 metre is 34DB, I recorded my drums, with a 10 mic set up and really couldn't hear the fans through the mics, So for live performances, even running lots of these, I don't think there would be problem, Most high powered LED stage floods have fans. It would have been nice if the fans only came on when cooling was needed, these fans always run. The remotes work as they should and are handy when the lights are mounted on high stands. Overall very happy, time will tell if they continue to perform as they should. As of now, they are great. These were bought as replacements for Stairville LED Flood Panel 150 40° which are a nicely made metal light and no fan, but far less powerful and arrived faulty with some LEDs not working, so I returned them. For my needs the QTX High Powered LED PAR & Wireless Remote Control are much better for my needs.

I can't knock either the light output or the weight of these fixtures. The light output and beam angle are excellent, plus, the plastic casing makes them super low weight. However, for my purposes, the fan noise renders them useless. I would imagine that for a DJ that has music constantly playing throughout a gig, the noise of these lights wouldn't be a problem. However, for live music that has any kind of dynamic range or pauses in between numbers, etc, the fan noise is just unacceptable. I'd planned to use them for my band, in a pair, mounted on top of our PA mains, to provide a front wash. But I'm afraid I'll have to look elsewhere. A pity as, otherwise, their output and low weight would have made them ideal for that purpose.
